"Dear Koss,

Just writing back to say, 'Have yourself a ball!'
To answer you: nothing happening, around here.

Yours Faithfully,

T'Pol

P.S. Your letter was in junkmail - I didn't see it.
Sorry it took me so long to get back to you."

(message ... DELETED!!!)

Let us talk about the Vulcan Heart and the Vulcan Soul ...
When you're out of my sight, T'Pol, you're out of control.
As is typical for Vulcans, I am not usually the jealous kind,
But the unfortunate truth is: you have another Man on your mind.

I'm not the fool you take me for. Did you really think I wouldn't know?
You were even seen holding hands on the Fire Plains, not long ago.
My first impulse was to perform a tal-shaya on the both of you.
But I did not want to ruin this forty-eight hundred dollar suit.

I'm the best that ever happened to you - what were you trying to prove?!
Have you ever wondered, T'Pol, how much I can take - just as I often do?
I've tried to stay frosty, and yet, my Vulcan Pride has to be protected.
How can I make you understand, when you're too hot to ever be rejected?

All of my friends have noted how much you resemble Jolene Blalock -
If only they knew what our life is like, in lieu of Holy Wedlock!
My mother once tried to warn me, "Koss, do not feel so very deep,
For, with a beautiful woman, there is often excessive upkeep."

The problem has to be that we have been living seperately.
Let us move in together - and soon - I need you, desperately!
Now that you've had your fun on ENTERPRISE and your thrills,
How much longer must I remain unfullfilled?!

From now on, T'Pol: Listen to Reason - Listen to Me ...
You must remember that I'm from an influential & wealthy family.
You are the only thing in my life that's been sorely missin' ...
When you're here, where you belong, you give my katra a glisten.

I'm a Family Man and was from the start
People say I'm down to earth, I suppose
But here's something that nobody knows:
... I'm really just a Romantic at heart

I often think about our wedding day
And when our babies were born
As I'm feeling tattered and torn
Because Life can get tough, in space

There are times when I feel insecure
And wonder where your love has gone
I just wear a brave face and soldier on
'Til your nagging me has run its course

I tease you how I'm an Irish Catholic
That a divorce won't ever go through
As The Holy See would never approve
On bad days, humour helps me through it

So, maybe I can't always be
A rock in the shifting sand
But I'll give you all I can
Try to get you what you need

Our life together still seems brand new
To you that might sound kind of strange
You're so beautiful that you never age
Keiko, there's something I want us to do

Later, when we put the kids to bed
Light those scented candles you like
I want to see you shine, tonight
The same way you did when we wed

After the wine & food
Go, put on your face
Put on the red lace
Put me in the mood ...

My Friend, Prithy, that your Excellent Poem above is not, in the slightest, Autobiographical!

Baltimore...and More

Passions Yearn
Streets Burn
Posts Churn
Would We But Learn

Nothing Good will
Come of This
The Last Refuge
is Violence

Yet Lessons Learned?
Or Minds Turned?
Bridges Burned
by All Concerned

Power Abused
Truth Misused
Circuits Loosed
Emotion Chips Fused

So Much Hatred
So Much Re-tread
MindRead Betazed?
MindMeld Opposite!

If People Could
See the Good
People Would
Do Neighborhood

They would not Fear
They would Hear
Share a Beer?
And Hear it Clear

We are one Group
Sharing Scruples
Not Jumping Hoops
Or Talking in Loops

Dignity
Equality
Finality
Today

Equal Access
No more Lacks
Each Other's Backs
Not Each Other's Necks

Stop the Madness
No More Badness
No More Sadness
Let's Do Gladness

Giga-Task
It MUST Last
It won't be Fast, but
The Die is Cast

When writing "poetry" (in quotes because Poetic Structure doesn't enter into it for me, here; I rhyme words) it's entirely subjective. It's all about the narrator's attitudes and perceptions, at a given moment. Hell, it could all be in his head, and "facts" never have to enter into it. But it's much easier to write and simplify if I can base it off of an actual show.

With "KEIKO," for example, I wrote a loose interpretation of what Miles might express about the Love of his Life. A woman, incidentally, who does not get her fare share of love from the fanbase! But yes, so much of poetry and song is about how in love the guy is with his sweet petunia, so I wanted to write something, in a straightforward manner, along those lines.

As for my feelings about my own heart's desire, well ... I strum on my guitar and sing out of key to express those. Maybe one day, I'll post a song and you could hum along!

:rommie: >>SNORT!!!<<

Songs that get the head to bobbing ... the toes to tapping ... By the way, I like your Baltimore ... and More offering! Very STAR TREKian in its construct, presenting its audience with current "issues." Something to ponder ... to mull over ... as I go about My Daily Routine™.

Thank you, once again, and also thanks for the insights in your "muse" process. I will warm up those vocal cords, and see you in the holodeck, right after Piscopo is done. Maybe Minuet is singing tonight.

2takesfrakes is a friend, on-line
His Posting Skills eclipse many of mine
But one thing good and sure and true
He Posts for the better of me and you

BBS is the Place to Be
Fora and Lounges to visit for free
Posting and Banter are part of the Deal
But Poetry sometimes makes things seem more Real

Scribing and Smithing, what 'Frakes and I do
Mirth and Pathos, our words remain True
Others have offered a poetry entrant
It is fun to discern what others have meant

Even if you do not think that you can
Give it a whirl, be you Woman or Man
Poetry's written in so many guises
Offered by many, not only the wisest

There once was a Cap'n named Kirk.
He could kill Klingons with a smirk.
After phasers and stabbin's
He'd get down to jabbin'
Hot ladies at the end of his.....dirk?

Data was an android, you see.
No need to breathe, eat, drink, or pee.
When asked by Tasha Yar
"Can you truly go far?"
He said: "I have full functionality."

Once there was an XO named Riker
Ladies man, trumpeter and hiker.
After many long years
Of Troi's laughter and tears
He was finally able to.....spike her?

Once there was a Counselor named Troi
Who could sense anger, fear, love, loss, and joy.
She went for Commander
But the conn keys do not hand her
Or she'll crash your ship.....oh, boy!

:D

Excellent!!!
Your Limerick Rhetoric would make a good Lyric!

Thank you, HIjol, for the Honourable Mention. Thanks also, for encouraging others to participate, because I never intended to "dominate" this thread. I like it because it offers a way to put a new spin on discussions that've been happening for half a century.

Every other thread sort of expects you to just type thoughts out in a way that's very straightforward. How many ways can you slice topics like, "Do Vulcans Have Emotions"? It's all been done. But when you write a poem about it, instead, now it's got a different spin on it, perhaps.

Mine are often very visual, yours can be 'deep,' teacakes are funny ... and so on. Maybe we're all saying the exact same things elsewhere on this site, but when you transfer those thoughts to this thread, they can take on a different life ...

A good Case-in-Point would be DeForest Kelly, known for his portrayal of a crustly, old, cantankerous Country Doctor, reciting poetry (circa 1989) ... of his very own:

What a great analysis of the difference when we post on this Thread, compared to other Threads. I wonder, sometimes, about my fellow BBSians, and what they are like inside, as I read their Posts. My hope is that even more will come here and share their "inside words", and give us a peek into their hearts and minds. And you are absolutely NOT dominating this Thread.

"Keep On Postin' On!"

A Mind Meld of sorts? Is that the goal? Then, accept my assurances that only The Very Best will ever do for Mrs. Frakes' son 2takes. As my STAR TREK: The Next Generation fandom reveals, I am a Man who enjoys ... The Finer Things in Life:

In GENERATIONS, Guinan described the Nexus as "... being inside joy. As if joy were something tangible and you could wrap yourself up in it like a blanket." TNG is my tangible blanket of joy, with every thread and fibre saturated with the vibrant colours of melodrama, romance, action ... and comedy! TNG is 100% Pure Satisfaction ...

Guaranteed!

^^Now THAT is a 'Frakes-HIjol Mind Meld for sure. Not even gonna try to add any words.

Blonde ... and Beyond: The 'Caroling Jim' Edition
by 2takesfrakes

My god, Carol! You're so beautiful, in form and face.
Such a jewel is seldom found in the vacuum of space.

You're hotter than Saavik, played by Kirstie Alley.
I know, also, you're as fertile as Napa valley!

For Prime-Spock once initiated a Mind Meld,
In which my eyes - through his - beheld,

The fruit of your womb: my son David,
on a planet, which you both created.

You left me to go feed and water my seed,
Whilst I explored the uncharted galaxy.

Our seperate lifestyles offered their appeal,
But there were still wounds that never healed.

This time around -- we can do things right,
Without help from the Nexus, or friends' advice.

In this Timeline, when we welcome our son in our lives,
Perhaps, we will do so as a Traditional Husband and wife!

"We've each learned to be delighted with who and what we are."
James! I, too, am delighted with myself! My friend from another star ...

Still, it seems that most in the Galaxy are normal-looking people.
I have to stop myself from staring at those who resemble a boll weevil!

"And there's no money in our century; we better ourselves, instead."
I reckon it's like I've died and gone to Heaven - without my being dead!

I'm fit as a fiddle and ready for new challenges, James.
But I can't live in this era by doing everything else the same.

I need to make plans, as I hanker for a Life of adventure.
Excitement will serve as my daily wages, as well as my leisure.

I'm Shedding the past & braving the day of a New Age's dawn ...
As this is sure to be the most fun I've ever had with my pants on!

"Mister President, sir.................."

I'll see Doctor McCoy to obtain elixers for Fever & Consumption,
Then it's off to see the universe, while I've still got the gumption!

Oh, now THAT is the True Stuff of a Poet's Soul!

DATA

You chose to believe you were a person
Much more than just circuits and wire
You showed us that you could be hurt some
Not only an Android for hire

You did indeed have a full family
With daughter and brother and Dad
But at the end they said no Homily
Those Time Loops; were you really dead?

Incredible smarts and some funnies
Is what you presented in "life"
You even had bevies of hunnies
Though never a Positron Wife

Tasha was hungry; Tripolymer!
She coaxed you right into her Lair
Molybdenum Alloy you gave to her
Tell truth, did you sit in a chair?

Quadrillions of bits for your storage
Trillions of bits for your speed
Emotions, though, had to be foraged
To feed your need to "bleed"

The Enterprise D was your main ship
A powerful, beautiful thing
She took you on many a Star Trip
'Till one time, to home couldn't bring

You did have some tear ducts and "organs"
I wonder if Lal made you "feel"
Created in Soonian image
Cascade Shutdown took her, too real.

I miss you, my Dear Mr. Data
Way more than the sum of your parts
We aren't even close to a "Beta"
Much less to a person with heart

But someday I hope it will happen
You, Data, will join in our world
We'll figure out all of your mapping
And UFP flags will unfurl.

We're the "BEAT GENERATION," eh? You have my thanks. I love how "Frakes" appears to have pledged himself to the teachings of "HIjol." Very appropriate, sir! Very observant. And "Frakes" has a beard like Riker does ... haha! Unfortunately, my face is usually in Riker Season One mode; kept smooth as an Android's bottom. Women like me Clean Shaven. They suspect I'm trying to cosplay as Riker growing a beard, so they nip that shit right in the bud ...
"Keep It Real." That's their motto!
