Deleted STID Scene!

TRON JA307020

Vice Admiral
Admiral
I've been looking up deleted scenes for some movies lately and I came across this one for STID. I'm sure plenty of you have seen it but some may not have. Its actually a bit funny but also showing Kirk making a detailed log. Its basically a extended scene of the when the Enterprise left the ocean on the first alien world they were at for the movie. It had a bit of TOS feel to it but I have a feeling it was cut because of the end joke that Kirk made. Maybe the producers felt that the joke was a bit to much and that a cadet Kirk may have made it but not a Captain Kirk. Regardless its entertaining. Enjoy.

I love the scene where the camera rotates in on the Enterprise. Gave it a definite space feel, they should've kept that.

Agreed. Scenes like this I like and are reminiscent of TOS. It also gave us a break from the action and gave us a scene where craziness wasn't happening on the Enterprise. Maybe we will see more like this in the third one.

It would ruin the reveal scene later on in Pike's office if they'd kept it in. I think that was the reason it got cut.

I haven't seen STID since it came out. What scene would it have ruined? Where Piker chewed him out for letting the aliens see the Enterprise?

Yup.

Love the log entry and the crew's reaction. Pine's dictation was very Shatnerian.

That's what I liked about the scene. Also it slowed down the action and shaky camera for a bit. Very retro and a nice scene. They need more of these down time scenes in the third movie.

I also feel like it would have stopped too abruptly the kinetic momentum of the prologue, though I do agree that I really like the scene overall as well, and it acts as a quick but funny scene of seeing the Big 7 together.

But the best is..

Kirk: congratulations Spock you saved the world!

:guffaw:

The scene made Kirk look irresponsible, which would further explain what Pike said about him not being ready for the captain's chair. It's the way he lies too, the fact that rules are no big deal for him.
That was a cute scene with the log, it's the only hint (also) that the crew wasn't exactly ok about his lie in the report..but, yeah, they probably cut it because it was redundant with Pike's scene later.
It would also contraddict a bit Spock later saying that he assumed Kirk would tell the truth in his report. He isn't in that scene but the other crew members are. Maybe Kirk lying isn't something Uhura would tell him in that moment when she was angry with him and all but still, it would seem a little weird that Spock didn't find out about Kirk's lie in the report.

Agreed. Nice scene, but it didn't fit. The same message (irresponsibility, immaturity) was done better in a few seconds when Kirk says to Spock, "So what? They saw us," then we cut back to the native drawing an outline of the Enterprise in the dirt. Whoops!

But the best is..

Closes his eyes? Illogical, given the suit just protected him inside a volcano. A human reaction, maybe? :)

I took that to be how a Vulcan does facepalm when his face is covered by a helmet...

An instinctual response.

And the scene in this form would be redundant, unless things were re-edited so that the scene ended right as Kirk said "The one word I would use to describe this mission is..." and then it cut immediately to Pike's office and Pike saying "uneventful."
But that would be a bit cliched.

Spock's such a dork. His logic knows that he is wearing a helmet but even when Uhura kissed him through it, he still tilted his head and leaned in the smooch
The same way his instict makes him close his eyes and show he's unconfortable when the red shirts spray his suit.

His human side, sure, but then, Vulcans are not robots.

^ Aaaand there it is.

Another good deleted scene, Scotty BSing his way onto the Vengeance.

Makes a little more sense than them just not noticing an extra shuttle.
