New Star Wars trailer

I see no such similarity. There are likely different motivations behind the scenes in question.

The look of the scenes how they are filmed. The motivations are obviously different.

Other than two people driving vehicles around a deserted stretch of land, the scenes are nothing alike.

If anything, the scene in the SW trailer was more reminiscent of the podrace from TPM, and even that's a stretch.

But of course people will see what they want to see to justify their own baseless assumptions.

The Star Wars trailer looks like fun, although I'm not much of a SW fan and am personally way more excited about Terminator Genisys and Batman V Superman.

Mhmm, The Batman vs Superman trailer leaves me pretty unexcited. The trailers for Terminator and SW are the ones that actually make me want to see those films.

Its not a baseless assumption. The scene has a racing car or vehicle on a desert road. Its most likely a scavenger. The scene reminded me right away of the one in ST09. Its definitely an abrams style. Sorry if you don't agree.

Yeah, by that logic the trailer for the new Mad Max film should have reminded you of ST09 too. Oh, wait, that's not an Abrams film.

Abrams used a similar concept in a trailer twice, nearly seven-years apart (if you totally forget we have no real context for the second time yet). Seems like another case of fans having really short memories as the various series have recycled whole plots, sometimes within weeks of each other.

Millers shooting style is completely different. Not abrams style at all.

If I see any similarity of anything, the speeder across the desert in Ep VII'S trailer is more reminiscent of Luke's land speeder gliding across the desert in a shot or two from Ep IV.

Why so defensive? Some filmmakers are highly visual and tend to present certain kinds of shots, regardless of story rationale. There's really nothing strange or controversial about that. For instance, you can take two shots from two very different Kubrick films and find similarities. It's just a visual trademark. Nothing more, nothing less.

Pointing out that certain people want to see connections between two unrelated things so bad that they will justify it to themselves in any way possible even when the majority disagrees with them is not being defensive.

That was the first thing I thought of upon seeing it. The trailer makes use of a lot of familiar imagery from past SW films.

The way it was shot still reminds me of ST09. The camera work is definitely directed by abrams.

The way it was shot still reminds me of ST09. The camera work is mistakenly directed by abrams.

Then clearly you saw ST09 before you saw the original Star Wars, so you're making a connection that is a bit misplaced.

But that's ok. Misplaced connections happen all the time.

I'd heard a story about someone who demanded that the subtitle of the second Lord of the Rings novel and movie be changed because that person felt it was tasteless and crude in the light of 9/11.

Really? Change the title of a Lord of the Rings book because this person had no freaking idea just how long before 9/11 the book had been written?

People see what they want to see, and a lot of times what they see is borne of ignorance.

No I saw SW years way before I saw ST09. The scene is classic Abrams. The way the camera is moving is definitely his style.

I liked it a lot. I like it better than the batman vs superman trailer.
I am a star wars fan but I am trying to be very level headed on this film. I am not freaking out or anything like most people. God please keep my life to the month of December and I will see the film although I wont see it on the opening weekend because everywhere will bee too full.

Me and the wife are going to go opening night. Should be a great experience.

On the flipside, think how boring art would be if everyone were handed out leaflets to tell them what to think and feel about it and what the authorial intent was and the definition of every symbol. If people want to see 9/11 allegories in everything, that's their prerogative. Being able to draw their own connections helps give these things special meaning, especially in music (music evoking a memory or relating to a past relationship). It's a very limited view of art that it should only represent what the authors intended.
