He did say so, here and here, for example:I was under the impression that Pegg didn't read Orci's script (perhaps because he said that?)
Simon Pegg said:No. It's completely new. I haven't read Bob (Orci)'s script and they didn't want us to. So we went back to the drawing board.
I doubt that those films took inspiration from Trek. There's nothing going on there, plot-wise, that Trek invented.
that's true, but Trek09 brought successfully rebooting a franchise via time travel into the mainstream. XMen and Terminator took notice

So it's up to King Daniel Into Darkness to reveal his conflicting source.
Ironically for you, Pegg was the only one who outright lied.
Ol' Scratch has high hopes for the new movie because King Daniel Into Darkness said Pegg and Burk weren't fond of the script. Ol' Scratch assigns some blame to the former staff for "lying blatantly [sic]" about Kahn in STID. The irony comes from Ol' Scratch's faith in the absense of liars when it was only Pegg who blatantly lied about Khan. The others were coy, but not liars.Ironically for you, Pegg was the only one who outright lied.
What exactly do you mean?
I don't know if it's worth rehashing here. Do a Google search for "Pegg lies about Khan." But I'll repeat that I liked Pegg just a little bit more after lying to people who wanted the movie spoiled. The rest of the production staff (except for the anonymous inside informant) were simply coy and evasive about the whole thing when they were asked about Khan.I'm even more confused. Who lied and about what did they lie?

I was under the impression that Pegg didn't read Orci's script (perhaps because he said that?) but then, when Orci was announced as director Pegg was one of the first who said he was happy about it because Orci 'truly gets trek'.
Yeah, I corrected my post to suggest that two posts later in the thread. He did say so, here and here, for example:I was under the impression that Pegg didn't read Orci's script (perhaps because he said that?)

No conflicting source, mine was just speculation based upon what I posted in the OP, weeks before Pegg said he'd never read Orci's script.
Pegg is co-writing, and that's a good thing. But how would you know whether Orci's script is not a good thing unless you saw it for yourself?

Interesting. I think no-one denies that Orci has a lot of Trek knowledge, and Pegg seems to personally like the guy. But the way the studio not only rejected Orci's script but offered the writing gig to someone else indicates there was some serious problem with Orci's sequel proposal.
BTW, when we talk about Orci's script, I'm assuming it was not a full script but a detailed "treatment". A pro wouldn't write an actual script without a greenlight first.
And about soundtrack? Will Brian Tyler compose the score for ST3? There was a rumor about it. Tyler is more dynamic than Giacchino. He created the score for Fast and Furious 5 with Lin.
With this new team, from writer to director and crew, something will change. I believe we will have a Star Trek a little different from what we have seen with Abrams.
I worry that the heart of these writers is not into the story and the characters will get treated as an afterthought because they care about other things more.
