Star Wars: Episode VII: The Nerd Rage Awakens

It will take a little getting use too, but I liked the ending bit from Empire Strikes Back's credits so it is fine.

I'm not sure I want Abrams to do Star wars. He isn't very original and will just rewrite previous material so he can have his visions.

I do want to see the conclusion to the Luke Skywalker trilogy and the effect they had on the Galaxy though.

Abrams will not direct the second film in the trilogy, or any of the spinoffs (Well, at least the announced ones). He might be back for the final one though.

That ship jumped into hyperspace long ago.

Given how all the Star Wars films were inspired by Flash Gordon and old scifi serials, he might be the best choice as director. His Trek films were closer in tone to Star Wars than the Star Wars prequels.

Plus, J.J. was born in the sixties and grew up as a huge fan of the Original Trilogy. He's the first fanboy who's gotten to helm a big-screen Star Wars movie (Kershner and Marquand liked and very much respected the franchise but were from different generations and backgrounds and didn't spend a lot of their previous lives before directing immersed in that fictional universe) and he seems like he "gets" Star Wars.

That much was evident when he decided to reintroduce a lot of physical props, real backdrops and animatronic puppets and aliens back into the franchise after the widespread use (some might say obnoxious abuse) of CGI and greenscreen in the Prequel Trilogy.

You know, i really wish people would learn to wait to see the actual movie before making all kinds of judgements on it and getting upset about it.

That's reality. This is the internet, where fanboys rule supreme and the rest of us are considered weird for not understanding how normal it is to judge a movie that isn't even BLOODY FINISHED YET!! ;) ;) ;)

It's so much funner to attack a movie based on based purely on a teaser trailer and how they felt about previous films from the same director. Like how we knew Phantom Menace would be amazing based on the trailer and how we loved Lucas' previous films.

The funny thing is that Episode I had exactly that. It just looked too polished.

It's not only the use of real models, it's the filming technology around it. Today you get mo matte lines around models filmed in front of a bluescreen. The compositing is digitally, so the image quality is much more pristine. The motion control rigs are far more advanced.

That's a horrible edit of the finale of the end credits of Empire Strikes Back. Yeah, they definitely should have John Williams compose a new one, instead of doing this extremely bad edit.
I believe this is just temporary, and JW composing the new one is exactly what's gonna happen. If I were Disney, I'd wait for Episode VII to premiere the new fanfare, and I'd be willing to bet that's precisely what they intent to.

One of these things is not like the other...

Yeah, I noticed the exact same thing. I just didn't want to be the first one to say it.

However, I will agree with the second quote far more as I think that is part of the problem with the Internet. Yes, I understand the desire to go over all the details of a trailer and speculate over what it all might mean, but it reaches a certain weird level to me when even movie magazines are dissecting the trailer. Not just press releases or other tidbits but just the trailer and what it could possibly mean.

But, regardless, I think Abrams has the potential to do a fine job. I don't think he has all the say in what is or is not in the film, so I don't lay it all at his feet.

Beyond that, I hope he has fun with it.

I wish that's what would happen but you don't put something "temporary" on a release you're selling for $99, even if it's only a digital download of a film series.

We shall see!

Trailers have always been fun to dissect. TPM was one of the first movie trailers that you could actually watch online (I remember it took awhile to download though) and we watched it many times. I also remember watching the trailer for Insurrection multiple times (after waiting that long to download you didn't want to waste it) and thinking it was going to be a great movie instead of a pretty decent television episode.

I'm not disagreeing that they are fun to dissect. Maybe I missed it, but I don't recall magazines dedicating whole front page articles to it either. But, I probably underestimate the draw of Star Wars too ;)

I guess it just surprises me is all. Maybe it shouldn't, but it does.
