DC and IDW to produce Star Trek/Green Lantern crossover.

Star Trek is not the first franchise that springs to mind when the word "crossover" comes up, but it is rapidly becoming one of the most crossed over universes around.

Marvel Universe/X-Men, Dr. Who, Planet of the Apes, the "Infection" crossover connected Trek to the IDW "Zombies /Robot" universe, which in turn has crossed into Transformers, TMNT, GI Joe, Ghostbusters and others. And now a second visit to the DC universe (after Legion of Super-Heroes).

I think reading the X-Men crossovers scared me off from all future Star Trek crossovers.

The concept for this one actually sounds great (the Enterprise coming across space cops works almost too perfectly) but I'm worried about the execution. Superheroes and Star Trek should stay pretty separate.

Star Trek vs Legion of Super Heroes was frakking awful, but right now, half way through, I am very much enjoying Star Trek vs Planet of the Apes.

I actually liked the first (and only the first) X-Men crossover. The pairing of Proteus and Gary Mitchell made sense and gave the crossover the proper stakes. The "Meeting of the McCoys" scene alone was worth the cover price.

I really like the Green Lanterns so I am looking forward to this. I would have preferred either the original TOS cast, or the TNG cast, but the use of the Abramsverse characters isn't enough to turn me off.

i liked it too. the McCoys scene and Kirk hitting on Jean Grey always made me laugh.

I read the Legion crossover (argh--horrible) and the Doctor Who crossover (which I thought was pretty decent)--

The problem with Trek and Supers like the Legion or the Lantern Corps is that individual members can rip apart a star ship single handed in seconds. A single Green Lantern is more powerful than an entire Borg cube.

And Kirk has fought his share of god like aliens.

Flint is Vandal Savage?

Whoever wrote that deserves an Indian burn.

To be fair, the writers were trying desperately to find a connection between the two universes. I think the Cybermen/Borg worked much better.

For the Green Lantern crossover, I would expect something like Kronos is equivalent with something in the Trek universe or Quard is actually the planet from that Lazarus was from or something like that.

Superheroes and Star Trek should stay pretty separate.

Quoted for truth, but hacks being hacks cannot stop themselves from hack concepts.

Because writers should never step outside the box. That way we can accuse them of being uncreative shills.

I've watched the crew of the Enterprise explore countless strange new worlds, battle the Klingons, battle the Romulans and so on in countless episodes, novels, comics and video games. I think crossovers with other universes is ultimately good for my enjoyment and good for the overall brand.

ST and superheroes are different animals, catering to equally different plotting demands. This is as silly and out of place as the 1970s, when Marvel shoehorned a bunch of horror characters (Tomb of Dracula, Werewolf By Night, The Monster of Frankenstein, etc.) into their superhero universe with less than spectacular, or even sensible results.

I have to disagree too. I actually compliment them for being willing to actually take chances and do different stuff like this.

Really. I mean, who cares if someone doesn't like the comic? They can buy a different one.
