That verson of seven of nine died and was replaced, and that timeline was replaced... "Sigh" This is why I think Joe was a dog. He was playing the long game with Anika, despite his wife being in the same Solar System. So, only if Seven was integrated with all her corpses, then after Relativity she would have been obligated to take Joe out for some joe just like she promised she would.
Note to Captain Janeway, Commander Chakotay, and Lt. Tuvok, Fact: I spent 4 years at Star Fleet Academy, during which time, as a cadet, received the Starfleet Medal of Honor while serving on the U.S.S. Ulysses. Fact: I graduated in the top 12% of my class. Fact: I’ve been a Star Fleet Officer for over ten years. Fact: I received several promotions in that time, rising to Assistant Chief Engineer. Fact: I turned down that position on the Federation’s flagship to be posted on Voyager. Fact: I’ve been thrown half way across the galaxy, and my two boys will grow up without me. FACT: I was attacked by a ‘former’ Maquis member. FACT: My attacker was subsequently promoted over me despite the FACT that she never graduated from the Academy, she never served on a Federation ship that was younger than she, and she had no knowledge of the latest and most advanced ship in the fleet; but the First Officer somehow concluded that she was a better engineer than me, though he knows nothing of my abilities because he never served with me! FACT, Captain: Now I’m being confined to quarters because someone used my station, or made it look like it was my station, to contact our enemy the Kazon and give them our technology. FACT: I came up with the solution to retrieve the stolen Federation technology from the Kazon. Question, Lt. Tuvok. Is it logical that covertly helping the Kazon will get me closer to my two boys? After my exemplary career, you, the Senior Staff don’t trust me, and that is shameful. After this series of your poor judgements, how could I ever trust you. I hereby put in a request for transfer at the earliest opportunity. Lt. Joesph Carey P.S. They didn’t even get my name right in this blog! Ugh!!!
It was really silly the way they brought him back just to die. But really they just didn't want to maintain any supporting characters after season 2. More thinking than the writers thought the audience was capable of, I suppose.
This was Voyager's major failing IMO. Making more use of those unruly maquis, a recurring science officer whose sole purpose wasn't just to be a mom, and more of the twins, would all have been welcome to me. Even so, Carey wasn't screwed over as much as the assistant chiefs in STiD. At least Torres was an experienced engineer. In NuTrek they were passed over for an 18-year old ensign, who qualified from Starfleet Acadamy less than a year previously, as a NAVIGATOR. That had to be a pretty awkward breakfast briefing.
Carey "dissapeared" because he was put in charge of The Shuttle and Torpedo Building Team (STBT) in December 2371. This is what happened:
Except they spoke with a bit more sophistication :-) but that was clever! Shouldn't Chakotay (and possibly Tuvok)have some tedious task as consequence for crashing shuttles? (Or Janeway for giving them away) be a team player, Janeway. I was just thinking...with some of the ideas I've read here, yours too lynx, most of us could have wrote Voyager better. The partial problem was they really believed they were so clever and imaginative. They're enthusiasm in their interviews is laughable to me.
no, it's okay. I've read voyager fanfic. Most of it makes me grimmace. Therefore, I probably exaggerated but it feels like most! :-) I think if we took the strengths of different writers we could write better! Ha! Find the ones good at writing the inner personal who know the characters and those expert in technobabble and ship specs to allow for more sci-fi instead of it being all mush talk with holes in fics because people cannot or will not research science. Magic could happen. Oh god, a reboot Voyager. I don't know if they could top Mulgrew but I am bias as hell here. I say get Kate back, redo voyager. but Janeway is 60 and voyager doesn't t return tidy and probably without one of our aging senior officers. I'd watch that over kiddie nuvoyager .
I'm actually quite happy with a lot of Voyager, especially seasons 1-3. But the writers did screw up a lot of things which could have been done better. The waste of shuttles and torpedoes is one of them. Either don't waste those precious things just for the sake of Braga's beloved explosions or explain why they still have shuttles and torpedoes with a shuttle and torpedo building team. Another thing is that sometimes they didn't seem to remember what they actually had done a couple of weeks and months before which creates all those contradictions. As I see it, it is sloppy work and a lack of interest for the stories and the characters. However, I don't want to see a Voyager reboot or some NuVoyager. It would only ruin everything. Besides that, it's actually funny to come up with some explanations to the odd things contradicions I do find here and there.
Despite how that sounded, I adore Voyager. I share your same points. I found it distracting from the story. I would assume if they write something new they'd highlight or bullet point it on a bulletin board or something. Or go back and revisit to keep some continuity.
I think fans underestimate how difficult it is to write a good TV show. I don't think the writing team was the problem, I think the leadership was the problem. They were told to write disposable stories.
