Skydance Productions, Bryan Singer and the new Trek series...

I just saw this as well - can't wait to hear more! Trek belongs on TV even more than in the theaters.

If Bryan Singer is in any way associated with it, don't hold your breath. He's been jerking TOS-Battlestar Galactica fans around for years with his "continuation" concept.

What, both of them?

Singer was contracted to direct a BSG revival that fell apart over a decade ago - fortunately, since that opened the way for Moore's revitalized version of the show. Singer had paying work to do at the time, so he went ahead and did it. End of story.

I actually really liked Bryan Singer's Federation concept. I think it would make a pretty awesome show.

No. Not even close to the end of the story. That was just the beginning of the story. Your information is "over a decade" out of date.

Since his first failed attempt with Tom DeSanto back in 2000/2001 (which held the most promise), he made 2, possibly 3 additional attempts that I'm aware of that he back-burnered. The first one was in favor of the first X-Men (totally understandable), the second one - I think - was for Superman (not so much understandable) and the third one most recently...wait for it...The Munsters remake. Yes, The Munsters, which wound up never going anywhere and BSG needlessly languished because of it. Each time he made some grandiose announcements, gearing up the hype machine and getting TOS-BSG fans frothing at the mouth. Each time he set it aside, like having Lucy pull the football away to let all us Charlie Brown's fall on our collective asses. If he's going to try to involve himself with Trek, expect a similar lack of focus.

Could be something, could be nothing, I guess we'll just have to wait before knowing anything further. Until then, this is just more speculation. That said, I'd love to have more Trek on TV.

It sounds a lot like the same old "CBS is thinking about maybe considering bringing Star Trek back to TV sometime in the future possibly. Also Brian Singer." that's been going around the internet for the last 10 years.

Any article that references the Axanar fanfilms smells fishy to me.

I dunno... I've been surfing these 'nets for many years and I have to say that Latino Review has become one of the more reliable sources. For example, they did call it right about STID and Khan.

When Singer's asked about it he always says he'd be keen to do it, which is just chatter. He wasn't the driving force behind the one actual attempt (that was DeSanto), and his name gets dangled by the futilely hopeful because...well, because no one else involved with this obsessive hobbyhorse has any real cache in the business. In fact, as your own recitation makes clear, Singer has simply gone ahead with his own career successfully making one real project after another.

I'm having trouble sifting through that article for exactly what the news is supposed to be.
CBS is listening to pitches?

I think it's more of case that various folks have been shouting their pitches at CBS...and getting nothing but silence in return.
CBS isn't actively saying no, so they must be passively saying yes!
It's so passive that not even dogs can hear it.
But maybe if you strain, it will be like those ghost hunting shows where muddled background noise says things like "Yes, we want another Trek series!"
