ENTER - Miscellaneous Avatar Contest: Phobias

Aichmophobia: The fear of needles and pointy objects.

This does not represent any of my phobias. I love black cats. But as recently as a couple of months ago, a home care worker who came to my residence took one look at my darling black cat and freaked out.

Really? I've had a few black cats over the years, so they were always "crossing my path"... yet I'm still around to tell the tale! :)

Really. Some people do have phobias about black cats. That's why the person I got Maddy from was afraid I wouldn't want her. She was a Freecycle adoption, and I got a phone call the night before he was going to bring her over. He was worried that I would change my mind about wanting her.

"Why?" I asked. "Is she sick?"

"Oh, no, she's fine," the guy said. "But I just thought maybe you might not want her. She's black."

So I told him truthfully that I love black cats, and not to worry. The next day he brought me a tiny 7-week-old black kitten, who I fell in love with in about 5 seconds flat. That was in August of 2007, and I still have her.

And yeah, the home care worker was an idiot who carried on about black cats and only shut up when I told her that Maddy has a half-dozen or so white hairs on her chest.

I guess I am too much of a cat person to have realized this was actually a thing. :)

I mean, I make jokes about "bad luck" whenever Friday the 13th rolls around, but it's not like I actually believe it...

Some people spit three times when a black cat crosses their path. My grandmother used to do that.

The best cat I ever had was a black cat. Boris. He used to run out and greet me when I came home from work, and he'd sit on my lap while I was eating or watching TV. Nicest cat ever.

Something weird is going on with my Photobucket account. The avatar I entered in another contest vanished, but I see the one in this forum is still here.

If my entry for this one disappears, please let me know and I'll repost it as an attachment.

I can still see it. Sometimes Photobucket is wonky like that and the pic disappears for a while.

I'll keep an eye out when it comes time to do the poll (which will be this Friday) and make sure it's in there. I saved a copy.

Thanks, Locutus. :)

Tomorrow is the last day for entries, everyone. Keep 'em coming.

I completely missed this thread. Hopefully, I'll get something up tomorrow morning. Too tired to crop.
