Assasin's Creed Rogue/Unity

In other news, AC head writer Darby McDevitt vows the modern-day story will come back to the forefront starting with Victory, that the lack of it in Unity ("Nothing that was actually cut") was down to not enough time/resources to spare (it was all they could do to recreate 1790's Paris, apparently, to say nothing of the game engine problems).

You know, the solution to this problem would be to slow the fuck down and actually take their time making these games instead of forcing a yearly release. I don't need an AC title every year; I'd rather wait and get games that are actually finished.

I thought about picking Unity up again when they fixed the bugs, and I realized I just don't care anymore. I'm one of those people that has to play all the games in a series I start that I enjoy (I've played all the GTAs, Far Crys, Assassin's Creed up to Black Flag) and I'm already two games behind on Assassin's Creed (Unity and Rogue). I feel Black Flag is a good place to stop.

I'm aware game companies are businesses first and everything comes down to the money, but Ubisoft's business practices of cranking out half-assed games full throttle, non-stop is really turning me off to them. I'll continue with the Far Cry franchise for now, until they start ruining it, but I'm done with them as a company.

^Funny thing is, Far Cry bores the hell out of me. The original was basically a tech demo with a bare bones shooter slapped onto it, never played the second, I enjoyed Blood Dragon way more than 3 itself (which I had to force myself to finish,) and I picked 4 as my free game from the Unity season pass debacle, played it for about 45 minutes, got bored, and haven't touched it since.

^ The missions themselves are kind of boring, but I love doing the bell towers and liberating outposts. I also enjoy just running around with my grenade launcher and flame thrower raising all kind of hell :)

I still think Unity is the best one since AC2. And it's funny, I never encountered any of the glitches the web was exploding about. And for some reason my face doesn't melt off when the frame rate is around 20-30.

The only glitch I encountered was at the end of the game during the final cutscene. I could see mouths moving, but nobody was saying anything. There was background music, but it was like the dialogue never made it into the sound mix.

I finally started playing ROGUE this morning! Now, I do not have XBL. Am I going to be encountering some terrible bugs that I can't fix...?

To be fair, Unity runs reasonably well at this point, the most glaring bugs have been fixed by now.

Played Rogue for about two hours, and I already like it better than Unity. Runs silky smooth with all settings maxed, and although it's basically Black Flag lite, let's face it, BF's gameplay was WAY better than Unity's.

I've been playing Rogue nonstop all weekend. I forgot how addictive these games are. How you can just do something that takes five minutes... then another... then another...

Rogue's good fun - doesn't feel like much new, as it's basically an expansion mix for AC3 and BF, but it's good fun and I'm enjoying it. Was most surprised to be attacked and killed by a Headless Hessian in Sleepy Hollow, though!

So far the only issue I've noticed is that the last security room hasn't opened, and the last four tablets haven't appeared, even though I've finished the story...

I'm now up to the sixth and final memory on Rogue and I'm enjoying it. Actually I think this might be the easiest AC game yet. Normally every game has 2-4 missions that take me ten tries to finish and end with me wanting to scream and throw my remote across the room... and I only remember that happening once so far! ;)

I'm still so utterly disappointed that the story has become completely superfluous both in present day and in flashback. It's clear to me now that nothing is going to top the Ezio Trilogy and they're just going to spin their wheels forever now storywise to keep churning out games. It's too bad because those early games were truly event storytelling for me. Uncovering the full Adam/Eve memory in AC2 is still one of my all time favorite video game moments.

I finished ROGUE. I think this was the easiest game to play and the mechanics were fun, but the story was completely waste of time. We didn't learn anything and we didn't advance the storyline in the past or present at all. So, fun game, but a superficial experience. When are they finally going to deal with Juno? Assassin's Creed Ten?
