Single worst scene in the first ten movies

Breaking off from the worst acting job, what is the worst scene as depicted in the first ten movies. Mention deleted scenes if you want, but they were deleted for a reason. I think some should have been kept and some others deleted.

My first choice is the transporter killing Xon and the other officer in TMP.

1. It's 98.57 %* pointless to the plot.

2. It's ugly, especially in a G movie. That deserves a WTF right there.

3. It hurt the whole damn concept of Star Trek as a whole because tell me when they don't use a transporter.

Plus the fact that the damn thing is always putting people back to the previous version of them either to make them big again, young again, mushing both halves back together, you name it, but this time it was accidentally set on "Elephant Man" Yeah, Right!

I'm sure there are plenty of others, TFF and Insurrection must be a treasure troves, but compared to those movies, nothing slapped me in the face like this scene from TMP.

* over 70% of all statistics are made up.

I disagree with this for several reasons:

1. It nailed home the fact that the "unreadiness" of the new refit design was indeed a real threat and something to be taken seriously. It foreshadowed the wormhole incident later when the engines went into antimatter imbalance.

2. It put Kirk in an even more "needy" position. Kirk had hand-selected Sonak (not Xon) for the science officer because obviously he was needy for a Vulcan and Spock isn't around. When Sonak dies, it puts Kirk in an even more compromised and insecure position than he already was in, especially with Decker.

3. Accidents happen. I for one think scenes like this make the environment seem more real and dangerous. Transporters are not something to be taken lightly...regardless of how many times they have been used flawlessly.

Worst scenes in Star Trek movie history, ranked:

10. Kirk and Crew Pose for a Picture (Star Trek VI- The Undiscovered Country)
9. Absent Friends / Data Memorial (Star Trek: Nemesis)
8. Worf's Promotion (Star Trek: Generations)
7. Scotty Knocks Himself Out (Star Trek V- The Final Frontier)
6. Data's Jokes (Star Trek: Generations)
5. Engage Manual Steering Column (Star Trek: Insurrection)
4. Colonel West Scooby-Doo Reveal (Star Trek VI- The Undiscovered Country)
3. Uhura Seduces the Natives (Star Trek V- The Final Frontier)
2. Picard, Data and Worf sing "A British Tar" (Star Trek: Insurrection)
1. Picard dances the Mambo (Star Trek: Insurrection)

I always thought the transporter accident was one of the better scenes in TMP.

I've got to go with a previous poster and go with the turboshaft scene in TFF. So unbelievably sloppy.

I simultaneously applaud your work and sympathize that you had to relive them all to make that list.

The single worst scene in all the first 10 movies...sorry have to go with Kirk,Spock and McCoy sitting around a campfire and singing "row your boat":barf:

Hardly. It was a touching moment of close friends just living--being regular people apart from anything connected to the job.

Totally agreed. I never cringed at that scene and I always thought it was valuable to experience the characters in that way. Excellent stuff.

Sorry, but I also think that scene was horrid! Poorly written and acted. It hurts to watch.

First time I saw it, I was very underwhelmed. Time has passed and I think it's one of the best scenes from that movie.

I don't see how? We've had cars and planes for nearly a century and still have some damned ugly accidents with them. This just shows the transporter is still a dangerous piece of tech.

Single worst scene: Kirk hugging Spock in The Final Frontier.
Not in the first ten minutes.

Worst scene: a freaking dune buggy in the 24th century.

As if there were not a universe of bad scenes in TNG movies to select, in comes...a dune buggy.
This is my vote as well, but because of the reckless violation of the Prime Directive by Starfleet adults and officers whom we know better than to behave like drunken teenagers while on duty. (Off duty, maybe).

But I'm not sure that was in the first ten minutes either.

Edit: Maybe I should learn to read better; movies - not minutes - got it. mea culpa.

No reason to be sorry. I just disagree. I'm sorry you can't enjoy it the same way I do.

Interesting. That's one of my FAVOURITE scenes from the movies.

For all the flak it gets, Star Trek V gave us THE best representation of the friendship between Kirk, Spock and McCoy.

That's a pretty good list. The only thing I would add is for #10 they posed for a picture THAT NOONE EVER TOOK!!!! If flashbulbs had been going off it would have a little bit of credibility to it, instead they just stood there like they were modeling for a sculpture of something.

That's the beauty about us humans, such a varied selection of opinions.
To be fair I never cared for the whole Kirk/Spock/McCoy friendship so of course I wouldn't be interested in lengthy scenes devoted to it.
More than that however I just found the acting+singing somewhat painful to watch.

The easiest way to define "worst scene" is the scene that failed in its intention, be it comedy, drama or whatever. So I'm surprise no-one has mentioned Kirk's death in Generations yet. And I say that as someone who likes that film overall.

The other thing that springs to mind is Picard's romance in Insurrection. Any scene from that is groan-worthy.

If I had to guess, I'd say that no one has mentioned Kirk's death because it's generally not thought of, when thought of at all, on a best-to-worst axis, but rather on an axis of memorability; you could make a great argument that of all Star Trek scenes, Kirk's death has the greatest disparity between how memorable it should have been and how memorable it actually is. Yes, this overlaps your "failed in its intention" scale somewhat, but it's a different animal; it's precisely because it's not memorable that no one has mentioned the scene.

In other words, "worst" doesn't necessarily align with "most disappointing."

Agreed. The scene proved how developed the characters were in that they were not cutouts that only gel in the framework of missions. There was more there than the uniform and Enterprise.

There are probably far worse scenes than this, but I watched the film recently so it's in my mind -- and, damn, was it bad.

It's one of the additional scenes in Star Trek VI -- "I bet that Klingon bitch didn't shed a tear."

I could see why it was cut from the theatrical release -- it didn't add anything to the film (except to hint that Spock was already well ahead of the story) and basically stopped it dead. The performances in that scene were incredibly flat, and Doohan's line readings were downright awful. When I watch the film, my attitude is always, "Why did Meyer put this back in? It should have stayed on the cutting room floor."

The three-way mind rape of Troi in Nemesis. Nothing in these movies, even moments from Star Trek 5 have ever offended me, but that scene? How could Rick Berman think this was a good send off to Troi?
