What if Tuvix had survived?

Kilana2

Vice Admiral
Admiral
This is what I´m asking myself for a while and I want to start a discussion. Janeway decided to restore Tuvok and Neelix to their seperate bodies, against Tuvix will. He wanted to keep on living. The seperation was a heart-wrenching decision, but in Tuvoks and Neelix´ interest. But what about Tuvix and his invaluable skills?

What unique skill did Tuvix possess that wasn't also held by either Tuvok or Neelix?

:)

A discussion about Tuvix....well it's about time

Considering the ridiculous amount of "transporter malfunctions" there has been over the years, you would have thought there might be some possibility of duplicating Tuvix then separating him (everyone's a winner)

But otherwise, I don't really see what Tuvix brings to the table that is significantly better or more valuable than what Tuvok and Neelix bring individually. Baking skills? Creepy skills?

If Tuvix had stayed on board, Kes would wake up every morning to find him hovering over her......grinning

I loved Tuvix

Hours later Janeway was bitten by a bug( Resolutions), then put into an induced coma, then marooned on a planet (never to return?) becoming more distant in Voyagers rear view mirror as Captain Tuvix took over...

Did Captain Tuvok keep his own room, or did he move into the slightly larger, slightly closer to the bridge "Captain's (whosoever they may be)" Quarters?

Well, at least he didn't smear the place in sex juices like Captain Tuvix, or Captain Paris would have.

It could have been quite the soap though if they had figured out how to keep Tuvix and also separate Tuvok and Neelix from him. Poor Tuvok would have had TWO 'nix's to be pestering him and trying to bond with him all the time. Once they established contact with the AQ Tuvix would be wanting to use his time to talk to T'Pel who other than out of scientific curiosity would have no reason to reply. And that's just Tuvok, Neelix would have a jealousy fit, he's so insecure about his skills already and here's a NEW him who can do everything he can do and also all the starshippy stuff.

Yes, it would be difficult for Kes. As for the fact, that Kes is obviously not especially popular, you might say that it would be her loss.

On the other hand I still see Tuvix in front of me, pleading for his life.

Because seeing Tuvix made her realize that actually, yes, Neelix really was as annoying and smarmy as she was kind of suspecting?

Not popular? All the boys love her!

Just take a look at the "Worst character" Thread .

Oh really. Well on this forum she is popular, even I have had her rise from "2nd least favorite character" to "meh, okay" over the years. And she is super popular on the ship itself with everyone wanting their guaranteed expiry marriage to an Ocampan, Janeway all full of wonder over her.. and then SUPER POWERS so the science Vulcan finds her fascinating. And on and on.

I really hate her voice. Yes no one agrees with me on that.

I honestly think that after being rightly creeped out by Tuvix she would have heard all that in Neelix as well. It's like Tuvix illuminated the icky sides of Neelix she had managed to make excuses for. Now she got over this a bit.. but I think Tuvix permanently harmed her view of Neelix and if she had been stuck with both of them she would have cut them out of her life very quickly.

I don't really see what Tuvix brings to the table that is significantly better or more valuable than what Tuvok and Neelix bring individually.
Let's see ...

There's the inability to be in two places at once. At tactical, and in the kitchen at the same time.

The future joy of doing the "Tuvix experiences Pon Farr" episode.

Since Tuvik creeps Kes out, Kes never develops her psycho powers, and doesn't have too leave the ship.

:)

Within a week, possibly a month, Tuvok and Neelix would kill Tuvix and never turn their back on the other again.

I will say it again I LOVE Kes! And for what it's worth I would have rather seen almost any of the other characters (Harry, Tuvok, Chekotay, B'Elanna, the EMH, Neelix) go than her.

And YEOP if Tuvix had stayed Tuvix Kes would have been forced to sleep with a rape whistle, mace and a phaser next to her bed, possibly wearing those metal underoos from "Robin Hood- Prince of Thieves" for good measure.

However despite finding Tuvix to be a slimy smarmy git and far more obnoxious than the sum of his parts I am firmly in the "Tuvix should have been allowed to stay fused" camp. Let me explain.

The way I see it, Tuvok and Neelix were not "gone" or "dead" to me they *were* Tuvix, just like taking apart two Lego towers and using the pieces to construct one. Nothing was gone, nothing lost just rearranged.
As such Tuvix, in my opinion at least, spoke for Tuvok and Neelix when he begged not to split him, because Tuvok and Neelix had no awareness beyond or seperate from Tuvix, so his opinion were also theirs by default.

I love Kes too. She's one of my favorite characters in all of Trek.
Janeway's decision to separate Tuvix is incredibly controversial, and I find it hard to say definitively yes or no to what Janeway decided.
I really don't like Neelix or Tuvok that much though so I wouldn't have minded trading them for Tuvix.

Why is he slimy?

Because Tuvix was still in love with a girl who used to be in love with him, but then wasn't.

She changed the rules of the game more than he did.

Divorce can be similar to their situation, but it rarely works like it did there in the episode Tuvix.

Generally the hate one side feels for the other infects the other, and then it just spirals out of control into a hate orgy.

Tuvix loved Kes so much that her attempts at murdering him didn't change his devotion, admiration and love for the woman.... Girl?

Slimy is when you persist to begin a relationship that is not reciprocated.

Or if we want to be completely honest Slimy is when a man who is not handsome tries to begin a relationship.

Handsome men can do awful things and women don't mind.

I'm not even talking about Tuvix' appearance. The whole way his character was written kind of made my skin crawl. He creeps me out in a way similar to Vic Fontaine.

Quark and Rom are ugly as well, yet I wouldn't call them slimy. Same with Neelix.
But Tuvix? Slime City.

Kes was never in love with Tuvix, that was Neelix.

:)

There's also that. But from Tuvix's perspective it was understandable that he was still in love with Kes, he was after all 50% made up of Neelix and, going back to my analogy of the Lego blocks, the "in love with Kes" block Neeliz supplied to the mix was naturally still present.

According to Warlord...

someone were disrupting your ability to concentrate. [telepathically] It's a helpless feeling, isn't it.
TUVOK: You will not break my control.
TIERAN-KES: [telepathically] Not break you, free you from all that repression. All you have to do is let go. I can help you release your own strength, and give you what you've always secretly desired.
TUVOK: I have never desired Kes.
TIERAN-KES: [telepathically] All those hours you spent alone together, all those intimate moments touching each other's minds, you've never even wondered what it might be like?
40 percent of Tuvok wanted to push Kes up against a wall and put a baby in her, if anything ever happened to his wife.

Which means that 70 percent of Tuvix was unwholesomely drawn to Kes.

And lets not forget how destructive unchecked Vulcan Emotions are, but there are rules.

Tuvok is married, so he kept that #### in check.
