I love everyone!
Each character adds something unique.
I have never said I hate them, okay Harry Kim but I liked him too.

Neelix is like a lovable mangy beast you don't want to put down. I enjoyed his scenes with Naomi, Seven & Janeway.

Did you also enjoy him ordering Lieutenant Hogan to his death? What business does he have giving orders to a Lieutenant btw? And why is ensign Harry Kim in charge of a team, while LIEUTENANT Hogan is taking orders from the hedgehog? Seriously, what's wrong with Janeway in that episode? Doesn't rank mean anything anymore?

I agree his scenes with Naomi were wonderful and I loved the episode where Seven revives him after being dead and he has that crisis of faith (that crisis could have been solved with one conversation, but it's still a nice episode)
The main ilk I have with Neelix is that he sounded so much better in the Series' pre-production bible where he seems to be some sort of space rogue instead of a kindly, plump cook/baby sitter.

Sorry, but my first raction to this was "Who the fuck is Lieutenant Hogan"? I don't watch Voyager very often...hardly at all actually.
Looking him up now it seems he was killed "while collecting bones near a cave" that doesn't sound like Neelix was ordering him to his death (please correct me on that issue if it instead was during that duplicate Voyager incident)
As to the taking orders part: It's a TV show, main characters often end up calling the shots, no matter their "rank".
It seems to me like you want your cake and eat it too. On one hand when it suits you you speak of Neelix as if he was a real person and defend him as such and on the other hand you say "Hey, it's only a show then who cares what happens?"
Well speaking of it like a show. Neelix is a bad character, he's annoying, he's stupid (or if you prefer he's written stupid). I could do without him and the less of him there is in an episode the better that episode will be (all things being otherwise equal, which I agree is never the case).
Harry Kim maybe be bland and boring at times but Neelix is annoying all the time.

This is a great quote! Btw, how the hell did neelix get his own ship, anyway?

I never understood the Neelix hatred, what's wrong with good ol' Neelix?![]()
It was his job to be raise morale and things like cook and help navigate a way out of the region.
That's pretty much what he did until he left the ship.
Maybe the biggest problem was that almost everybody had a certain blandness and character typecasts at that point. And supposedly, on purpose.
The rumor is that the character were to act as military and bland as possible, so the aliens would appear more interesting.

1) He's annoying, in a stupid uninteresting way.
2) He's incompetent, any time he boasts about a pretend skill, you can be sure he's terrible at it: horrible cook, his so called survival skills cause two people to die in Basics. He poisons the ship with cheese once, another time he disturbs the warp field by getting flees into the ship as well.
3) He's unreliable, cowardly, unfunny...etc.
Any character that had a good episode centered around them can't really be a character that should have never existed.
Neelix had "Jetrel" which, while hokey, had pretty good Neelix-related issues.
Mayweather had "Horizon" which is one of my ENT faves.
Didn't say you had to like 'em.
