Cold Equations Trilogy

Emissary of the Prophets

Fleet Captain
Fleet Captain
I am going to keep this short, but sweet...

I have been behind in my reading due to various reasons and I was very apprehensive about this trilogy. However, I was very impressed. Each book had a different feel, even though there was a linking storyline. I found that very refreshing especially since they were all written by the same author. I don’t really want to bring spoilers into the ‘equation’ but The Body Electric is one of the best Trek books I have read in a long time. 3 days after finishing it, I am still thinking about it.

Well done, David Mack.

And light it the casualties too :) just 2 major ones from memory.

I loved having Wes back. And torturing Worf, poor thing.

Book three did have at least one entire M-class planet get eaten; Mack has a reputation to keep, after all. :p

(Plus the security team that went into the Machine didn't fare too well, and at least a couple of them were recurring characters.)

Lookin´forward to reading it this year, but German publisher Cross Cult is currently behind its schedule. Book 1 is due in June. Mmhhh, let´s wait and see.

Some of my very favourite Treklit. This was a great series.

I've just finished Disavowed, and although I'm not so keen on the espionage stuff and the which side is Sarina really on thread, it was pretty damned good too !

^ Why is there any doubt whose side Sarina is on? I made it quite clear in both A Ceremony of Losses and Disavowed that she's with Bashir.

Hi David - I caught that, it's not a fault with your writing or my comprehension !

Maybe I'm naturally suspicious, or maybe I've just read too many cold war espionage novels, but I haven't discarded the possibility that she's a double (triple ?) agent.

You might have sold us a dummy...

Maybe there was doubt. At least when I read the Typhon Pact novels. At this point I was trying to make sense of Sarina and on which side she is. I found it quite exciting, that the author made me think about her character and her motivations.

But I always tended to be on Sarinas side. With the Cold Equations and The Fall novels lying ahead, I´m quite anxious to see how things develop and I look forward to reading about it.

I think at the point where Sarina is willingly letting a Starfleet Intelligence telepath into her head we can be reasonably sure what side she's on.

The fact that we've had scenes from Sarina's point of view back up for me that she's on Bashir's side. To have it revealed that she has actually been working for 31 now would be a betrayal of the readers' trust, because we've seen things through her eyes, had scenes set within her perspective, and she hasn't let on that she's trying to trick Bashir.

Especially considering that
we had a scene showing that 31 is aware that both of them were acting for the camera and intended to do something about the organization.

I mean, if someone's set on eventually revealing Sarina as a triple agent, working for 31, it's not entirely implausible that, say, some sort of mental manipulation has been involved, or someone is using Sarina somehow, but I don't see Sarina intentionally betraying Bashir at this point.

When we literally hear Sarina's internal monologue, there's really no more room for debate.

I really like the Cold Equations trilogy. There's no doubt that Sarina's on Julian's side not Section 31 that's for sure.

Finished Persistence of Memory today. It's good to have Data back. Jasminder's death was horrible. I can relate to Worf: another partner dead and he was unable to do anything about it. Aneta has potential. Hopefully she keeps on living a little bit longer...
I was so clever to re-read Jeffrey Lang's Immortal Coil severel month before, it was helpful and made sense. Several weeks until Silent Weapons will be released in German. I'm looking forward to.

I wasn't very happy about the character deaths, but other than that I loved the CE books. I was thrilled to have Data back, and Mack gave us a really good arc for him to go along with it.

There is NO room for debate, because the effing author has stated where she stands.

The problem is, David has stated before that he has ALWAYS had Sarina be on Julian's side. Other authors have been vague with this however, causing the confusion.

David Mack however, has gone on record, on this forum, several times now, that there is no debate possible. Sarina is with Julian.

The story goes on. And I'm looking forward to reading The Light Fantastic. It will be released next year.

This comment you mentioned is several month old. And was related to Disavowed and not Cold Equations. So keep calm :)

Right. Just noticed that now. Sorry. I get a bit passioned sometimes. ;)
