He/they require as much qualification as voting for "Flash", "Green Lantern", or "Robin." Come to think of it, so does "Hawkgirl", even if you differentiate that identity from "Hawkwoman."

I'm guessing John Ostrander? I haven't read any of his work with these characters (well, except when Firestorm crosses over with Suicide Squad for an issue or two), but I loved his Suicide Squad run, and his Star Wars work.

Maybe I should have included Ostrander's Deadshot on the list, but I was trying to stick to "heroes" per the thread title. (Yeah, I know, the Spectre, but still.)

Ostrander's (and Mandrake's) Spectre is one of the great unappreciated series.

I blame the DC writers who seem to change Hawkman's origin and background as often as most fans change their socks. There's, what, a dozen different versions of Hawkman now?
Me, my favorite hero is and always will be Superman. (Particularly as portrayed by Chris Reeve.) There's no ambiguity with him: you just know he is good. I like the sense of idealism, of absolute good.
Amen. Far and away, my favorite treatment of the character.
And, yeah, the Spectre was the first name that came to mind when I saw this poll. I've always had an irrational fondness for the Spectre, probably because he combines two of my favorite things: superheroes and horror.
