Are The Majority Of Posters On TT Liberal?

All of this depends on what you actually consider "Liberal" or "Conservative". Per their origins as terms, neither is quite what it was.

In the US, most (if not all) of the founding fathers would be considered Liberals by modern standards. The roots of that side is in Liberty - Freedom to decide for yourself, to live your life as you choose...

What we now call Conservative once simply meant that folks wanted stability, order and safety.

Neither is right or wrong - entirely - and most people actually believe a bit in both. I know that I'm a mix of both and I'll bet everyone on this board is as well...

I don't see much value in being labeled as Liberal or Conservative. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, a very liberal area, and I'm generally more Conservative than most who live here. If I travel to somewhere like Arizona however, all of a sudden I'm the liberal one.

Pace RJDiogenes, I am a firm believer in labelling the bejeezus out of people, myself included. In that spirit, I'm proud to declare myself a post-anti-anti-essentialist anti-post-positivist neo-post-Marxist Realist with aesthetic leanings toward Blackened Doom Symphonic Grungecore. Still working on getting that to fit on business cards.

No wait, I don't believe in business cards. Never mind. I guess I'm just some dude. :techman:

LOL! I too enjoy labels. I am a mostly a economic and foreign policy conservative.

It's always best to get to know people as individuals rather than labels.

You'll get nowhere with an attitude like that on the internet !
Tell me about it. :rommie:

I label you a Beat Poet. :mallory:

TBBS is a wretched hive of Fuzzy-Headed One-Worlders, Tree-Hugging Druids, Kenyan Socialists, and Gaia-Worshipping Equinox Dancers.

They all sicken me. Every last one.

People from all walks of life.

As others have said, Left Wing or Right Wing are the more accurate categories (all ideologies are conservative by definition, really). Most posters here are Left Wing. I'm extremely liberal and I disagree with the Left almost as much as I disagree with the Right, especially in the current political climate; I also agree with both on certain subjects. It's always best to get to know people as individuals rather than labels.

But even left wing/right wing has issues given that just as with conservative and liberal they are different depending on where in the world you. So it might be fair to say in US terms of left wing/right wing that the majority of posers are left leaning.

I would think so. I wonder if Star Trek just has a more left leaning fan base or if it some other reason.

I'm not sure, myself, but I see plenty of reasons why Star Trek would resonate with people on the left, and the right. I think we all want a future for humanity where hunger has been eradicated, and sickness has been greatly alleviated. That's a positive view of our future. I think we just have different approaches.

It's one of the reasons why I don't like the idea of seeing someone on the opposite end of the spectrum as some kind of enemy. I think, ultimately, we'll all have to work together if we want to survive as a species, and Star Trek says we will. I like that.

Right-leaning here. And after being in an engineering school in the '90s during the height of TNG and DS9, it was a shock to see that most people here are somewhat left-leaning. But as others have more eloquently said, it doesn't really matter that we sometimes disagree as long as we all treat each other with respect. Besides, we all have the same optimistic goal for the future that Trek presents.

[OT] J. Allen, your most recent signature makes me do a double take every time I see it! (<-- See my name.)

Sorry!

I watched that episode of MASH the other day, and it just cracked me up. I had to immortalize it in my signature. :D

I like to think of myself as an information vegetable. Sometimes a fruit.

Absolutely. They're the worst.

With their wee beady eyes, and that smug look on their faces: "Oh, you're going to buy Vapor Trails Remastered...."
You have to remember, though, that, in the end, we're all kept equal by hatchet, axe, and saw.
