Still a small miracle that the ruler of the bandits managed to read a big chunk of Archer's personal log without ever bumping into any mention of the transporter.

It's a poorly written line, but John Billingsley makes it work through performance. On paper, it can read as if Phlox might be doing everything he can to make certain the guy dies.

True, but I didn't see it until you mentioned it. I guess it's all in the delivery.

All viewpoints are well written and discussed. A most enjoyable thought provoking episode.

I've watched this I don't know how many times since first seeing it on NBC, but there are always things to learn about it.

Actor Gregg Palmer is the mustached cowboy who gets shot by Morgan Earp. Notice how he makes sure we get a good look at his face before he hits the ground.

Palmer had been in many movie and tv westerns, but one series in particular connects to this episode.

On Hugh O'Brian's popular The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp, he appears as Tom McClowery in what appears to be a 4-episode arc in 1961, ending with "Gunfight at the O.K. Corral". In the same episode, John Anderson (TNG: The Survivors) played Virgil Earp.

I find it a little troubling that the "bad guy" (Doctor Russel) is the one that saves the day and still gets bad mouthed by the "good guy" (Crusher) who would have done nothing. I think you can't make scientific progress without people like worf willing to take a chance once in a while. Beverly wouldn't let Worf take the chance even after being told that his only alternative was death according to his culture. That's fanaticism!

Plus I don't care if he only peeks after the hand is over, (you're not supposed to see the cards unless you pay for it), Geordi is a cheat.

I like how it combined the style of the Twilight Zone and regular sci fi together.

Not an episode, but Trek The undiscovered Country aired a couple of days ago.

It had the best political intrigue and plot line over all the movies.

It was what Nemesis should have been.

It would have taken a lot of work to make Nemesis an acceptable movie. It would have been easier to use the money to make a completely different one.
