Did Voyager Just Fail to Adapt The Changing Landscape of Televsion

Maybe, but what we as a species have really discovered is that Photography was never an art.

What a mean trick we fell for.

In Star Trek's time you'll be able to say that about darn near everything. Just walk into a holodeck and create what you like..

Artist: Computer I want a landscape in oils with big tree shapes and the light behind them, like I want the trees DARK and the light uhh.. light. Bright. Yeah, yellow and bright. But I want the whole thing to have an olden days look.

Computer: Specify. Chiaroscuro effect or Sepia.

Artist: uhh.. brown, just you know, light with brownness.

It will take more words than point and shoot but the result will be amazingly good and you can sign your name to it!

Don't you remember those Data moments?

Geordie would say "wow! You're an artist! You painted all these paintings?"

And Data would reply "I have mimicked the styles of famous artists to rereate their greatest works."

I think this happened more than once since I also remember Geordi Bitching that everything was plastic and that he wanted to see a Data original.

Have you seen (the new movie) Big Eyes?

There's a bit where the fraud says "Why sell a few dozen paintings for a hundred dollars when I can sell a million prints for a dollar each!?"

Which are words you expect from a suit not an artist. :)

Some think it means nothing is art, as in worthy of being revered and paid for and respected but I'm very firmly in the everything is art camp.

Not Data though. He's a toaster. His creator is the artist.

I haven't seen Big Eyes, that sounds like something I would be interested in.

Well.. depends on how hung up on designer cachet you are. On experts telling you something is of great quality.

There's a certain sexiness to a more anarchist approach, be an art freegan! Yes.

As a 5 year old watching Nightcourt, I began to notice that it was the same prostitutes in Harry's court every night given the same choice "50 dollars or a night in jail."

The five year old can be really annoying that way. Noticing stuff no one cares about...
