Marvel has re-arranged their release schedule to accommodate their wayward, prodigal son...

Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok will now hit theaters November 3, 2017. The following year, Marvel’s Black Panther will make its way to theaters on July 6, 2018, and Marvel’s Captain Marvel on November 2, 2018. Finally, Marvel’s Inhumans will now debut in theaters on July 12, 2019.

So, Spidey will be out before Thor 3.:)

^ Awesome news for Black Panther. Before it was set to slam against JL Part 1.

Is Garfield still Spider-Man or is Marvel recasting for their CU?

Is Garfield still Spider-Man or is Marvel recasting for their CU?

The release says "new Spider-Man".

Under the deal, the new Spider-Man will first appear in a Marvel film from Marvel's Cinematic Universe (MCU). Sony Pictures will thereafter release the next installment of its $4 billion Spider-Man franchise, on July 28, 2017, in a film that will be co-produced by Kevin Feige and his expert team at Marvel and Amy Pascal, who oversaw the franchise launch for the studio 13 years ago. Together, they will collaborate on a new creative direction for the web slinger. Sony Pictures will continue to finance, distribute, own and have final creative control of the Spider-Man films.

I asked because that statement is vague. It doesn't say Garfield is out but it says "New Spider-Man". Sony is set to release the next Spidey in 2017 but Garfield is Sony's guy. So there is a lot of gray in the statement.

From what I've read, Garfield would have been out Marvel or no. His under-performing movies notwithstanding (not that that was his fault), he also angered Sony execs by blaming ASM2's disappointing box-office on studio interference. Then he insulted Sony execs from Japan by blowing them out at a corporate dinner.

So, when do you guys think the new Spidey will appear prior to his first full movie in 2017? My guess is he'll have a cameo in Civil War, possibly in the post-credits scene.

It's too bad Garfield won't be back, as I think he was fantastic as Spider-Man (he was okay as Peter, but I blame the writing there more than anything else), but I can understand Marvel wanting a clean break from what came before.

I would bet real money that Marvel will be using Peter Parker.

Can you imagine how shocked we would've been by this announcement had it not been for the Sony hack?

The Wrap is reporting that Garfield is out.

Shame that. I think Sony gave up too soon if you ask me.

Agreed. Even though I wasn't the biggest fan, the ASM franchise should get its trilogy at least.

And is Sinister Six still a thing?

See that's the thing. Sony and Marvel are "sharing" Spider-Man. Spidey is going to be in the MCU but Amy Pascal is no longer making decisions for the Sony Spidey Franchise. ASM 3 and SS could still happen.

I liked Garfield as Peter well enough, but, honestly, I don't want those movies stinking up my MCU.

New details emerge courtesy of the Wall Street Journal (however, I don't have a direct link because I don't have an account with the WSJ)-- Spidey will debut in "Civil War", and "Sinister Six" has been delayed.

Personally, I think that they should can S6, and move Drew Goddard over to the new Spider-Man movie.

I didn't get the hate (or dislike) for ASM2; I thought it was a fun movie. And it's a shame therefore if now the mythology those two movies built up is just going down the toilet. And I loved Andrew Garfield in role.

... But hey I'll look on the bright side, Spidey in Avengers. In the words of Rocket Racoon "oh... yeah"

Hmm I wonder what they're going to do with Black Panther now that Spider-Man is going to rightfully take his spot back. I really hope things turn out well!

Fantastic news that Spider-Man is finally being brought into the fold. However, I'm disappointed (but unsurprised) that Andrew Garfield is probably out. Along with Emma Stone, he was one of the few things Sony got right.

But maybe we'll finally get a good Spider-Man film.

^There were three main POV characters in the Civil War comic. Cap, Iron Man... and Spider-Man.

I'm assuming that Obiwanshinobi is assuming that BP was put into Civil War to take Spidey's role in the story. I'm not convinced that that was the case, as there were A LOT of heroes in Civil War. For all we know, Marvel has been developing the story for CW with Spidey in it all along, anticipating that the deal would be struck. Or maybe he'll only show up in the stinger. Who knows?

TONY: You have to register, Black Panther!

T'CHALLA: Diplomatic immunity.

TONY: NM

Yeah, that's a weird assumption to make. Even with a heavily altered Civil War, I can't really see a way for Spider-Man and Black Panther to fill the same role.
