"Lonely Among Us" the end of Picard's Career?

There's certainly one thing Timo and I can agree on: Sam Cogley's defence strategy was appalling! For all his berating the computers and insistence on using "books, books young man!" he was just as slavish in accepting the computer log as everyone else - it didn't even occur to him to question the reliability of The Machine, that was left to the computer-phile Mr Spock.

Cogley is on the verge of giving up with no Plan B and no fight. Bizarre. All it would have taken was a few lines (in the court room) to suggest that Spock was looking into the computer on Cogley's instructions and have the attorney summon him at the end, dealing his trump card!

As it stands, the audience are left wondering how Cogley ever got the amazing reputation he seems to enjoy. Kirk sure was lucky that Spock wasn't delayed, the results would have been disastrous!

And by that you're not implying that Spock has sex with computers, are you?

Nope, that would make him a computer-sexual.

Which he may be, but the episode doesn't elaborate.

Um, Timo, I don't know why you're insisting on this.

Whoops, sorry if it sounded like that. I agree that the charges were about things other than letting Finney die for the greater good. I just wanted to expand that IMHO worrying about button-pushing procedure wouldn't have been very fruitful of Starfleet, which supposedly wants people who are quick to press such buttons, not slow. Worrying about officers who tell lies is a different matter!

Cogley is on the verge of giving up

I guess the best we can hope for is that this was a ruse, and Spock and McCoy sent Cogley an SMS informing him of the new developments, Cogley then timing his "The defense rests - wait, it doesn't!" theatrics accordingly.

OR computer-phile as in pedophile. I guess computer-phile sounds more like a crime which it could be considering that the computer doesn't have the option to say "NO"...

True but that's a very modern and narrow use of the Greek word which quite literally means "love" (and not necessarily in a sexual sense).

However, your point is well made and certainly conjured up some interesting mental images! ;)

It was all for fun of course.;)

I assumed as much - nice to see it can still happen on the BBS, it can get a little rough here sometimes!

Happy Weekend one and all :techman:

Well in that simulation, she ordered Geordi to his death, not Riker, I'm not sure she would have been quite able to pull the trigger if it was the latter.

Who wouldn't want to order Geordi to his death?

Captain, we've achieved standard orbit.

Umm, Geordi, you better jump out of the airlock, for the good of the ship, of course.

Can he take Wesley along with him?

The traveler probably went to take a rest first, miscalculated the exit point in time and arrived seven years later in the eight hours he was sleeping. Time travel/ultra warp drive...whatever.

Don't forget that he comes from:

A place where thought and energy combine in ways you can't even imagine

Whatever that means...

I think we saw there in the episode Where No One Has Gone Before and for me you could have a great party there
