Klingon or Vulcan?

Sparkle Fabulosa

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
Out of the two most popular alien species, which would you rather be and why?

I'd rather be a Klingon because I couldn't imagine living a life suppressing my emotions. Klingons may be loud and aggressive but at least they express themselves.

Klingons are far too offens-y. All that "War!" and "Battles!" is just... no.

Vulcans are relatively better, but that's only compared to Klingons. That seven-year itch thing they have seems annoying, and for a race that prides itself on logic and order, they have far too much pomp and ceremony and traditional rituals which is just... "Dude, why, exactly?"

If I had to choose, Vulcans are the least worst choice, but I'd rather be a Betazoid.

Vulcan, because I don't want to feel pressure to constantly act dominant, yell at people and challenge them to battles to the death not to get murdered by my direct successor.

Wait, do you mean being this species in Starfleet or being this species among their own kind? Being a Klingon in Starfleet would be pretty cool. You get all the benefit of the stereotype of lowered expectations. If you act like an angry child, it's just your culture. If you apply basic reasoning and restraint, you flatter all the humans that you are accepting their culture. And rebellious human women? Let's just say they've heard things. :)

At 'this' moment in time :) I think I would prefer being Vulcan. I might end up changing my mind if I give more thought to it though.

Scylla or Charybdis?

Klingons - they have more style, but too violent and all that nonsense about "honour" and "warrior code' and "warrior this and that". Also I don't like to eat blood, innards or stuff that is still alive.
The Klingon culture does have hints of beauty and passion, but too often it steers into violence.

Vulcans - no way in hell am I getting a bowl cut and spend my life repressing my emotions. I'm too much a starry-eyed romantic for their sober, restrictive society. Also they are vegetarians, no thank you. Though the ears are cool.
Do we count those Vulcans that don't repress their emotions from Enterprise? Then I want to be one of those.

If not I take the third option and be Betazoid.

I'd go with Klingon, especially if I can choose Worf's path to be raised by humans (my parents to be exact). Even as a Vulcan with unsurpressed emotion, they're more susceptible to outside forces. That nebula will make you go into early pon farr, that nebula will make you stark raving mad, etc.

Definitely Vulcan, as I definitely grow very tired of aggressive people doing stupid things. Also, any disagreements I might have with others can be quietly and calmly dealt with by a non-fatal Vulcan neck pinch.
:vulcan:

Let's see. Would I rather go through life with a permanent stick up my ass or with a permanent chip on my shoulder? Hmm...

I think it's a draw. :D

Vulcan, for they are more beautiful, and pointy eared. As for the typical haircut, nobody has to wear it. Both Saaviks have beautiful hair. But also depends on who would be my family and surroundings...I really wouldn't want a traditional family- the V'tosh ka'tur way sounds good, also there must be some Vulcan colonies, where society can work differently from Vulcan... And one doesn't have to act like not having emotions- look at Valeris, she looks quite happy and enthusiastic for the most of TUC.

The only problem would be pon farr, but there are several ways to deal with it, one of them does not even contain sex.

Personally, I'd go with Klingon for a couple of different reasons :klingon:. The first one being that I already have a very strong belief in a code of honor and loyalty so adapting to Klingon culture in that regard would not be much of a stretch. Second, their cuisine is...unique...to put it mildly but I'm a cook so cooking with a lot of living ingredients intrigues me. Lastly, their curious biological adaptations, like having a third lung, sound pretty useful. The concerns voiced by others in this thread about constantly having to be aggressive and macho what not seem a bit narrow minded. Not all Klingons need to act that way it just seems like those traits are more highly valued in their society, especially for a warrior.

Don't get me wrong I like Vulcans very much particularly for their philosophy of logic and tolerance but I find myself drawn more toward the Klingon side of things.

I forgot to add that I would be a "black sheep" Klingon. I'd learn how to use weapons in case I ever had to defend myself but would choose a more peaceful way of life. Thus disappointing my family.

I thought this was an idea for an new game show from the thread title.

I guess I'll take Klingon, only because they seem to like to party. I don't imagine Vulcans having too many parties.

Those tight leather pants the Klingons are always wearing look uncomfortable, probbly why they're so irritable. :klingon: The Vulcan wardrobe looks more comfy and less restrictive to me; Spock's bath robe from Star Trek IV is the shit! Hence I choose Vulcan. :vulcan:

What kind of game show did you have in mind?

Maybe they read off famous cultural sayings and you have to guess: Klingon...or Vulcan?!

I would choose to be a Vulcan, definitely. I like the art and architecture that we've seen from various shows, and you don't have to have the bowl cut. But honestly, it's mostly so I could do mind melds and the neck pinch.

I do not want to "be" anything, or anyone else but the one and only Me! However, I have a definite preference for Vulcans over Klingons. The Klingons in The Motion Picture were COOL! They really acted and looked great. Then ... they started getting over-used and over-exploited and before you know it, I'm watching Worf sniff his mate like a dog, when she was in heat (but not in the crotch area, as this is regular television, back in the day). I'm watching Klingons howl as they stare into his eyes as he's dying to "warn the dead." Spiritual rituals that are just lame. An Honour Code that's entirely too flexible, depending on what kind of "cool" the episode's going for. As an example, Worf's invited to kill Duras' son in vengeance, when the son wasn't involved in the deceased father's doings. I love TNG, but I really do not care for the Klingons. Keeping them mysterious was the only way to keep their coolness, but Worf's ability to be a Klingon in Starfleet always had to be tested, for some reason.

The Vulcans lost much of their mystery as well, thanks to -ENTERPRISE- which was fond of having them played as emotional, which they justified by "corruption" of Surak's teachings. Whatever ... and loved showing the Vulcan High Command to be corrupt and incompetent, as well. Their makeups kept getting shittier and their wigs kept getting nappier, don't ask me why. But through it all, the Vulcans appreciated beauty. They pretty much retained that. The female Vulcans were generally hot looking, which is as it should be. And even though the CGI landscapes looked rushed and kind of simple, and the only shown sehlat apparently cost too much to have him actually do anything but howl a little bit, then run off ... it was always cool to revisit Vulcan. The basic ideas were always there, they just were never realised in a way that merited any kind of awards, at all. They were the lesser of the two evils with the Klingons, I guess you could call it.

At this point in my life, I think I could make a good Vulcan. I've always valued logic and knowledge, and I am less emotional than I was when I was younger. I lean towards a vegetarian diet anyway. And I like how elegant Vulcans often look.

No way I'd want to be a Klingon. I've already seen more than enough violence and drama, thank you. But if I absolutely had to be one, I'd be this kind:

I forgot to add that I would be a "black sheep" Klingon. I'd learn how to use weapons in case I ever had to defend myself but would choose a more peaceful way of life. Thus disappointing my family.

Of course, this is all silly fantasizing. In real life, I'm stuck being a Cardie-Bajoran. Oh, wait...

I understand Klingon personal hygiene is less than impeccable. Also, Klingons seem to be very hearty, a quality that quickly becomes tiresome. So I'd be a Vulcan, if only because they seem to value peace and quiet.

... Let's be honest, Klingons are jocks and Vulcans are nerds. All Star Trek fans are Vulcans!
