TNG Rewatch: 5x25 - "The Inner Light"

Say it was an attack. OK now what? They're all dead a thousand years. Should Picard be resentful anyway? Seek vengenance on...something? Are we supposed to not enjoy the episode?

I don't get it.

And I still don't.

No, you just consider that Picard's reaction is not the end all be all of interpreting this episode's occurrence. That it's quite possible he's been affected beyond his ability to recognize. That it ain't all hunky-dory like the episode makes out. IMHO it adds another layer to the intrigue of the episode, that a lot of people don't often recognize & therefore it's a discussion worth having

Perhaps in First Contact, instead of Picard smashing the display case, he picked up the flute and started playing it?

Hey, come to think of it. Maybe that explains why Picard is totally willing to let all those Boraalans go extinct in Homeward. Those jerkbags on Kataan finally got to him, & he doesn't care if people go extinct anymore. lol

I appreciate the fact they tried to do something different with the "The Inner Light", but they just went about it in completely the wrong way. Couple that with it being incredibly dull and it just isn't an episode I like.

Others are free to feel however they like about the episode.

There are two ways to look at this episode. Depending on if you're in a good or bad mood.

1) A dying world sends out a beacon of memory to their civilization as a last desperate hope for their culture not to be lost to the abyss of time.

Or

2) A bunch of a-hole aliens brainrape Picard and keep him prisoner in some sick twisted little fantasy world for their own amusement. And then gloat about it right to his face.

I like this post most of all those others.

And to quote Grandpa Simpson, A little from column A, a little from column B.

It's a nice, touching even, little drama very well acted by the lead (Stewart), but it's dull and not very noteworthy otherwise. Certainly not worth of watching more than once.

Watched it with my wife last night (first time viewer of Trek). She laughed when I told her that some people regard it as the pinnacle of TNG. If it wasn't for Stewart this episode would stink. And the actress that plays his daughter is HOT.

For me, the pinnacle of TNG is "Q, Who"/"The Best of Both Worlds I"/"All Good Things". "The Inner Light" isn't in the same national park as those three.
