If Disney were to buy Star Ttrek

1. What do you think the outcome might be

2. Do you think this will help the trek films go from niche at the box office to box office juggernaut

3. do you think it will follow Rodenberry's dream.

It would never happen. Disney would have to buy out Paramount and CBS away from Viacom, which they have no need to do as they already own a studio and a network.

1. What do you think the outcome might be[?]

A lot of photoshopping of Micky Mouse ears on Star Trek staples. Probably a crossover with Star Wars.

2. Do you think this will help the trek films go from niche at the box office to box office juggernaut[?]

No. That's pretty much an impossibility.

3. do you think it will follow Rodenberry's dream[?]

If you mean the definition of "Rodenberry's dream" most commonly referenced by fans on this forum, then I would really hope not. That would make for just about the most boring movie imaginable.

Depends on who they get to run it. The Disney name alone won't make it a success.

2. Do you think this will help the trek films go from niche at the box office to box office juggernaut
No. See above.

3. do you think it will follow Roddenberry's dream.

The dream of which Roddenberry? The one from 1964? The one from 1979? The one from 1987?

Mickey Mouse or Goofy with pointed ears?

I agree with the posters here about Gene's vision, which is more a myth than a reality. The spirit of what Trek is goes far beyond the "vision".

DS9 is the sequel series that is closest in spirit to the tone and themes of the original series but it is often criticized for being "non-Treklike".

Not if Paramount/CBS were willing to sell the rights. Everything has a price.

If Disney owned Trek, they'd probably continue merchandising the existing material, but opt not to produce anything new, putting all their money to Wars instead. We might get a new, cheaply-made animated show at most. Yet another reason why such a sale would never happen in the first place.

I doubt that Disney feels like they need to buy another big space-based movie franchise right now. They've got that covered with Star Wars and the cosmic side of the Marvel universe.

why no for number 2.

star trek 2009 showed trek has the potential to be a box office juggernut. it grossed 257m in usa alone and added an extra 100m outside usa. this is the same trek than did not have any usa foreign record until trek 2009.

its to bad the writers ruined things in STID and it reflected in the box office.

The problem with that of course is that neither was a Star Trek film in any sense that mattered.

The only sense that matters is they were films called "Star Trek" by the people who own Star Trek.

Not enough technobabble?

Good lord, we already have an tire subforum for this sort of gab. Is there no peace for our time to be had?!
