Ghostbusters 2016: Talk about the movie(s).

Re: Ghostbusters reboot: Yes, it has WOMEN

See, that's what's known as a "lie."

And hey, maybe you'd like to quit projecting. The only person getting all worked up here is you, for some reason. Can't take a little challenge against using the term "chick flick." Nope, gotta get all bent out of shape like it's something deeply important to you.

They have pills for that kind of anxiety, these days.

And clearly you're more than happy to continue pushing his buttons, and continue derailing the thread, just to prove how on-side you are with the board's female contingent. The more things change...

Put me on ignore. :)

I've never put anyone on ignore, so I'm not giving you the privilege of being the first. :)

Just find it funny that you're still the board's self-appointed White Knight. If there's ever a discussion about what offends women, you can guarantee you'll be up to your arse in it.

Re: Ghostbusters reboot: Yes, it has WOMEN

And there's the first White Knight accusation because RobMax is betraying his gender, his bros... siding with the wimminz in the eternal fight for... I dunno, what are we fighting over?

Didn't take long.

Will BigJake and CorporalCaptain also be banished from the Kingdom of Men?

Re: Ghostbusters reboot: Yes, it has WOMEN

So, I wonder what the plot of the new film will be?

Any indications - other than the main villain being the spirit of a man who drowned in menstrual blood?
I read the script, it's essentially a 90 minute speech by Wiig about all women freeing themselves from the oppression of men, she then crosses the streams and all men are banished to a ghost dimension. Then a Katy Perry song starts playing and they dance for 20 uninterrupted minutes.

Do they power their proton packs by burning bras and as part of the inevitable training montage grow our their leg and arm pit hair?

they need to work this line in - it would work in a comedy:

That's golden

Would it help if Emilia appointed me personally? Then I wouldn't be self-appointed.

Or should we take a vote? I'll take being the board's elected White Knight, too.

Re: Ghostbusters reboot: Yes, it has WOMEN

And I thought the Johnny Storm casting for Fantastic Four reboot couldn't be topped for vitriol.
I was wrong. Female Ghostbusters unhinged things 10x worse.

I'm going to leave this thread alone until some new information to discuss comes along.

Aaaand there it is. :rommie:

I find it funny just how few of the people who seriously use the term "White Knight" have worked out how it makes them look.

They use aborted male fetuses. Although I found it a bit disturbing that they actually scream when used.

I think the idea of a democratically chosen White Knight actually fits the philosophy of White Knighthood. I can't imagine a White Knight being comfortable with the idea of being appointed by some unaccountable power.

ETA: AP, it sounds like the new Ghostbusters will be a bit darker in tone. Although the handmade foreskin leather purses the team carries will get a few laughs.

I won't be banishing anyone anywhere, since I live in a world where everything isn't the Man vs Woman battle that some people would like us to think it is. I also couldn't give a crap whether this film is all male, all female, all singing, all dancing, or whatever, as long as it ends up with a decent story.

I merely thought I'd point out that in the few years since I was a regular here, the only thing that's changed about "RobMax" is the colour of his name.

After all, supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony.

(Sorry, done now)

Yes, clearly that was crucially important. You're doing the Lord's work.

Meh, I could deal with being an unaccountable power.

You already are. You're a woman. :devil::devil::guffaw:

Re: Ghostbusters reboot: Yes, it has WOMEN

Funkenstein, I didn't see anybody saying they're offended by the term "chick flick". I surely am not and I have said that at least twice. I raised a point I found interesting but it's still a minor point.

Don't be so over-emotional and angry just because there was some discussion about the term. Your choice of words clearly shows how much you're losing it while everybody else seemed to be having a good time. You're the only one who is turning this into a big deal.

Nobody is trying to oppress poor helpless men here. You're not going to drown.

I was offended by the term "chick flick," but I am also offended at this delicious Jell-O pudding pop I am holding in my hand.

Re: Ghostbusters reboot: Yes, it has WOMEN

I really don't care.

See, that's what's known as a "lie."
Then you're a fool, because I really don't care what you think of me as a person. It doesn't change the fact that you people are the ones ranting and raving about a completely innocent and inoffensive term all while trying to pretend you're the voice of reason and civility. And why? Because I know how to use bold and italics text to emphasize words?

And hey, maybe you'd like to quit projecting. The only person getting all worked up here is you, for some reason.
I'm not "worked up." I'm annoyed about a certain type of person, and how their irrational need to be offended has to come up in practically every post they write, all the while trolling anyone who disagrees with them. And yes, you are most certainly a troll as others have already pointed out.

Can't take a little challenge against using the term "chick flick." Nope, gotta get all bent out of shape like it's something deeply important to you.
Again, you and the people like you are the only ones getting bent out of shape about the use of the phrase "chick flick." You're the ones taking it as a grave insult to the sensibilities of women everywhere, not the people actually using it for its intended and commonly accepted usage.

Even better, you people still seem to think that just because I'm annoyed by that behavior, it somehow makes my a misogynistic asshole who hates women and thinks this remake is going to be the worst thing ever. Why? Because you can't actually come up with a rationale explanation to explain your insane need to be insulted over absolutely, positively nothing, so you have to try desperately and pathetically to misdirect as best you can.

To make it absolutely clear, the only thing I have an issue with is you, those with the same mindset as you, and people trying to misuse "chick flick" as some kind of offensive insult to women. That's it.

As my dad used to say: "There were so many good places for you to stop."

Well, a woman came here and raised it as a minor nitpick, and you didn't want to listen to her. In fact, you went kinda ballistic and all but accused her of being hysterical. I don't know how she got you so hard right in the feels.

Thought maybe you'd listen to a (cis)man instead. XY bros unite!

Guess not, though. Guess not. :(

What are you even talking about?

This is starting to get really tedious. Just going back a few posts it's easy for everybody to see that nobody made a big deal out of it. I specifically stated that I have no strong opinion one way or the other and that I just thought it was an interesting point.
You can keep repeating this lie but all that's going to achieve is make people wonder how you created your reality distortion field.

Re: Ghostbusters reboot: Yes, it has WOMEN

[snip spittle-flecked ranting]

I'm not "worked up."

[snip more spittle-flecked ranting]

Riiiight.

You ever hear the term "performative self-contradiction"?

you people still seem to think that just because I'm annoyed by that behavior, it somehow makes my a misogynistic asshole

Whoa...

you people still seem to think

Oh no you didn't...

you people

Well, if anyone is under the illusion that you're a misogynistic asshole, the best way to show them is with hyper-aggressive, over-the-top screeching about how you're not worked up. Aces, dude.

Since I can't persuade you to dial it down, however, I'll just take this opportunity to point out that { Emilia } was largely right and you're largely wrong. "Chick flick" is of course seen as a common and innocuous phrase by people of both sexes -- that part you're not wrong about -- but it also very clearly does not connote a part of the film landscape that's particularly respected, and is in that sense pejorative; and it also very clearly gets slapped indiscriminately on films starring women, as happened in this very thread on zero prompting apart from the announcement of an all-female cast.

My good friend Peter Howell, who I just met with a few minutes of Google searching and is well know to have served back-to-back terms as Lord Commander of the Self-Appointed White Knights, Toronto Chapter, puts the point eloquently:

Peter Howell said:
I do have a problem with it, and I'm surprised that more people don't feel the same way. It's a meaningless and offensive term. But it's in such common usage, dating back to 1992, it has its own Wikipedia entry.

The term is invariably trotted out by lazy critics, both male and female, whenever they encounter a film they presume will be of interest mainly to women. And that presumption isn't based on anything resembling respect.

The current releases Julie & Julia and Bright Star, plus today's opener Coco avant Chanel, all fall into this nebulous category. They have strong female leads, they deal with emotions and empowerment and there are no explosions. Ergo, they must be chick flicks.

The expression is meant to be synonymous with "trashy beach read" or "popcorn flick" as a catch-all term for disposable entertainment, but the three films I've just named are anything but disposable. They're all quite thoughtful movies that men and women would both appreciate, if they could get past the nasty gender bias inherent in the chick flick label.

I hate the term because it's a form of contempt masquerading as hip lingo. Implicit in every use is the qualifier "only," even if the word is unspoken: "It's only a chick flick."

He is correct, whereas you're wrong and your argument is bad. I hope that doesn't frustrate you, and I look eagerly forward to your measured, reasonable and totally-not-worked-up response.
