Ghostbusters 2016: Talk about the movie(s).

Re: Ghostbusters reboot: We're (almost, maybe, sorta) ready to believe

Allow me to recap: Ebert called it a chick flick.
No. He said is was an "attempt to cross the Chick Flick with the Raunch Comedy."

Arg, Cyke101 beat me to it!

Sooo he IS inferring that Bridesmaids is a chick flick.

If Bridesmaids is a "cross" between a chick flick and a raunch comedy, then it is a chick flick.

Logicially speaking. :)

By the way, that means you and Cyke are wrong to say I'm wrong. ;)

Dude. You said that Ebert called it a chick flick, which is flat out wrong, full stop. You've chosen to interpret what he said in a certain way, which is arguably reasonable, but that doesn't give veracity to your mischaracterization of what he actually wrote. And, there are other ways, also arguably reasonable to interpret what he said about being a cross between two genres as well; by way of illustration, a liger is neither a lion nor a tiger. Furthermore, he used the word "attempt" which admits the possibility of failure, including a failure to succeed at being either of the two things being crossed.

Re: Ghostbusters reboot: We're (almost, maybe, sorta) ready to believe

Who cares what Roger Ebert didn't call it?

There's tons of resources defining what a "chick flick" is. And one site who's entire reason for being is to have people decide what is or isn't a chick flick places Bridesmaids just two positions below Beaches and many, many steps above movies like No Strings Attached and Moulin Rouge.

I'm not sure why you're being so pedantic about it. "Chick flick" basically means "movie aimed more at women then men." And, by coincidence, that often includes romance movies, musicals, and tearjerkers, but it does not exclude comedies or even action movies.

Who's being pedantic? One poster claimed that Roger Ebert said certain things, and if that's appropriate to say in this thread, then I thought it was appropriate to set the record straight about what Ebert actually said. That's all.

Personally, I don't give a fuck what movies are or aren't chick flicks. I've probably enjoyed plenty of bona fide chick flicks.

Swerving out of the ditch and back onto the main topical highway, I hope to enjoy the new Ghostbusters, even if it makes every list of chick flicks on the Internet!

Re: Ghostbusters reboot: We're (almost, maybe, sorta) ready to believe

Corporal, it's NOT wrong.

Let's think about this logically: If Ebert said Bridesmaids is a cross between chick flick and raunch comedy, what does that make Bridesmaids?

Furthermore, he used the word "attempt" which admits the possibility of failure, including a failure to succeed at being either of the two things being crossed.

Except that Ebert gave it 3.5 out of 4 stars, which means the movie succeeded in its attempts, according to Ebert's definition.

:)

I win.

Re: Ghostbusters reboot: We're (almost, maybe, sorta) ready to believe

I bet that came across as very profound and well said as you were constructing it in your head, didn't it?
Got your attention didn't it?

Dog shit gets your attention when you're trying to avoid stepping in it. But at the end of the day, it's still just dog shit.
I bet that sounded profound in your head.

and at the end of the day you still stepped in it.

The only emotion I'm feeling is mild amusement because of your cute condescending tone. You need to try harder. ;)

Good! Because this is supposed to be FUN.

Oh, men... so overly touchy. ;) Need hugs?

Hugs are always welcome!

Nice bridge...
But personally i'm curious how this movie will turn out...

Re: Ghostbusters reboot: We're (almost, maybe, sorta) ready to believe

Who gives a shit if Bridesmaid hit someone's definition of a chick flick, a term that is rather ridiculously vague to begin with? It's a great, funny film. This insane need to constantly fit all art into genres is so limiting.

Re: Ghostbusters reboot: We're (almost, maybe, sorta) ready to believe

I think its the pejorative use of the term.

Re: Ghostbusters reboot: We're (almost, maybe, sorta) ready to believe

(Shrugs) I always thought it was "a romantic film that tried to get more female asses in seats than men's asses." Nothing special, no magic or gender conspiracies, just marketing.
Wikipedia says "Chick-flick is a slang term for a film genre mainly dealing with love and romance and designed to appeal to a largely female target audience."

Does anyone want to talk about Ghostbusters? Who you gonna call, etc?

Re: Ghostbusters reboot: We're (almost, maybe, sorta) ready to believe

We're apparently not going to call Enrique to see if he wants tickets for opening night. :p

Re: Ghostbusters reboot: We're (almost, maybe, sorta) ready to believe

They're hugging all the time, though. If they ever make a movie it'd be the perfect chick flick. Manly men hugging... a lot.

This strikes me as rather funny. Particularly as men don't like to be seen hugging, especially with other men...

Re: Ghostbusters reboot: Yes, it has WOMEN

I like hugging, and just a few posts earlier I found out that I still have my balls, so...

I'll hug anyone. I love hugs, and they're good for so many things!.

It's true, this man does have balls.

Re: Aykroyd Comments on Murray, Ghostbusters 3! Working on Script w/Ra

Anyone remember that sequel series to Ghostbusters made in the late 90s? I thought that was a good "Pass the torch" type of story that could be used for GBIII.

I do, and it should have been made into a movie. You had all of the elements; multi-racial cast, a female member, and youth-all of this could have been brought together in one movie and worked quite well.

Re: Ghostbusters reboot: We're (almost, maybe, sorta) ready to believe

Last I checked, did Hangover have a scene with one of the guys shitting in a sink?

Anyway, yeah, we're all just ranting at the moment.

Let's see what happens.

Like I said earlier, Ghostbusters 2 sucked. So I don't anticipate the third one being any good.

And with Bridesmaids boxoffice clout? I'm not entirely certain that there won't be a studio push to make it more like Bridesmaids. And therefore, chick-flicky.

Some men are under the delusion that the film will be a misandrist fantasy, which is why many men hate it,or the concept. In their view, a beloved male adventure is now going to become a women's movie with guys being treated badly.

Of course (and I'm not saying that you are one of those men, EnriqueH), I could be wrong.;)
