Did Bashir just give Sloan the bird!?

It's been years since I watched the series, and I have been "marathon-ing" my way through it for the past few weeks.

Has anyone else noticed that Bashir, played by Alexander Siddig, passively flipped off Sloan, played by William Sadler, in the sixth season episode "Inquisition" at 3:44-3:48, 3:56-4:00, and 4:36-4:38? Am I just imagining this? I guess the censors considered it acceptable for network TV?

What would be the point? I think it's safe to say that you're imagining it. They are playing roles here. It's not a real life situation. Alexander Siddig doesn't give a damn about what sloan does to bashir, why would he send a crypto insult to the latter? Think about that one minute, will you?

That's the first time I heard of it. If it's Riker the neanderthal then given that he was even too dumb to talk (which isn't consistent with what we know of the real Neanderthal), it's unlikely that he would even remember what that gesture means.

The point was that Bashir could see that Sloan was messing up his conference plans, and he didn't like it. He couldn't outright insult this guy, but he could give a hidden gesture.

I completely noticed that one too. I gave it some leeway since, yeah, Riker was a protohuman.

I am sorry but that seems a bit too vulgar for the franchise. I don't see why he would do it then? To get the approval of the immature audience? He gets it anyway, so what's the point?

When you think that a character is doing something useless and potentially hurtful to the franchise, is when it is time to revise your thought processes.

How many times do they even say "f*ck" in the entire franchise? I think zero is an honest approximation. Why do you think that is?
