R40: Rush's Farewell Tour?

The Greatest Band on Earth has announced a summer tour of North America.

It seems like every time they go out on the road, people speculate as to whether or not it's the last time. Neil Peart is always a reluctant road warrior, especially now that he's remarried and has a young child at home.

Anyone who's ever seen Rush live knows they put on a helluva show. 3 hours, no opening band. "Three men who sound like ten" according to one reviewer. Those of us super-nerds who were into Rush before their modern resurgence ("I Love You, Man", The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame) might be in for sticker shock seeing the prices on this tour, but we always get our money's worth.

Anybody else out there hitting the road with Geddy, Alex and Neil this summer?

Like some other bands, it will probably be their last "major" tour. They may still do some dates here & there and hopefully still make new music.

I'll look into going to a Chicago date, if I can afford it.

I quit Rush a decade ago when ticket prices doubled between tours. Greed isn't attractive to me. Other equivalent (or bigger) acts such as Maiden and Sabbath charge a lot less.

Final tour ? I can expect £100+ for a decent seat then ?

Tempted ? Well, yes, a little...

Is it the anniversary of any specific album? Maybe they'll do a whole album, plus other tracks.

Well, I think it's meant to be the 40th anniversary of the band being together with Neil (their first album in 1974 had a different drummer, of course).

So far I haven't read anything that indicated new recordings, or full album performance like they did with Moving Pictures a few years ago.

Here's a little blurb:

"Because there are no plans for any new music right now, Rush will most likely stick to their huge catalog of classic songs for the upcoming tour."

I'm sure more info will be coming in the months ahead.

Now, just have to wait 6 months for the show!

:scream:
