Simon Pegg, Doug Jung To Write Star Trek 3

Re:

The identity of a screenwriter is not a spoiler. The contents of the script he/she comes up with, of course, is absolutely a spoiler.

Re:

I am so looking forward to them finally doing the movie where they go back in time to prevent JFK's murder!

Well, now I can believe it. So he does have a connection to Bad Robot that wasn't readily known. Makes sense.

Definitely not a spoiler, since it's announced openly in the TrekToday headlines immediately to the right of this thread.

And it's an intriguing choice. I rather liked the Cornetto Trilogy (that Pegg cowrote with Edgar Wright), and The World's End was an effective science fiction movie in its own right as well as a comedy. Hmm... not so long ago, a lot of people were hoping Wright would get the director's gig. Pegg getting the writer's gig is in the same ballpark, at least.

And it's in the grand tradition of Trek films' cast members moving behind the camera later on -- usually to the director's chair (with Nimoy, Shatner, and Frakes), though a few did have story co-writing credits (Nimoy on TVH, Shatner on TFF, Spiner on NEM).

What do you mean? Pegg has a well-known connection to them -- he's been a cast member in four Bad Robot-produced films by now, two Mission: Impossible and two Star Trek. But I don't see the significance, since any production company can hire writers that aren't part of the company. The person co-writing the script with Pegg has no prior Bad Robot connections.

I'm pretty sure that Dac is referring to Doug Jung there. He'd expressed some skepticism earlier concerning the news.

The person co-writing the script with Pegg has no prior Bad Robot connections.
Per the Deadline article:
Jung also wrote for Bad Robot and Paramount a film called Diamond, which is how he got the gig.

Re:

well, Pegg is trekker. I think Doug isn´t.
Are they starting from scratch?
will Shatner and Nimoy be back in ST3?

Re:

I'm excited about this. I love Simon Pegg, and when it comes to stuff like this, he's a consummate professional.

Re:

And Roberto Orci? He's been with these movies every minute of their rebooting..

Re:

So can we assume Nick Frost is going to be Harry Mudd? :)

I'm very happy with this news as I'm a big fan of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz

Re:

Very interesting. I'm looking forward to see what they'll do with Trek 3.

Re:

Fantastic news.

Pegg deeply respects the franchise and will no doubt have help and support from BFF and quality filmmaker Edgar wright.

I think he's a great addition to the writing team, he will balance the all out action blockbuster with a degree of intellect the franchise deserves.

Bravo
