Surprising that RTD is involved given how firmly he's shut the door on ever returning to DW.

He says he's not interested in writing for the show anymore because he enjoys being surprised by new episodes.

This, I could see happening some time in the future. He has nothing but praise for Big Finish and he was thrilled by the recent adaptation of his novel Damaged Goods into an audio play.

Jeez, this thread didn't stay on topic very long with the second post complaining that RTD isn't involved with Doctor Who anymore and somehow bitching about Eccleston is crept its way in. When do we start bitching and moaning that Paul McGann isn't involved just to get our trifecta?

Anyway, on topic I found it interesting in the last paragraph they mention these radio dramas featuring the whole Torchwood team returning. Does this mean they're set prior to Miracle Day, perhaps even prior to Children of Earth rather than a continuation after Miracle Day? I don't mind either way, but I would like some sort of post-Miracle Day continuation. Despite the somewhat optimistic comments from Barrowman in that article, I think its obvious the show probably won't be coming back, aside from maybe Jack appearing on Doctor Who.

A good point... the last radio season went out alongside Miracle Day, but was set prior to Children of Earth... apart from a clever plot twist in the final episode [spoilers! Four years later...]
Having done that, I'd hope they wouldn't just take the 'All this happened earlier' approach... but equally, they might. The Radio 4 Rumpoles started out with Timothy West doing the stories written after Leo McKern's death, but more recently they've had West as Old Rumpole narrating Benedict Cumberbatch as Young Rumpole in remakes of his early cases (and they have the same director, Kate McCall).

Oh, I know, I've read it. Still, in the soon to be four years since Miracle Day, that's the only thing from the tie-ins that have gone post Miracle Day, and I'm guessing this is a case of the author being given carte blanche because he's the star of the show. There's clearly interest in more Torchwood, the fact of these new radio dramas is proof of that. And you'd think going after Miracle Day would be easier than trying to squeeze stories between episodes from the series.

I was thinking that it would be cool to see(hear?) Eccleston return for an RTD-penned episode for a Big Finish special. Assuming that is that RTD wasn't the source of his friction with the series.

No need to white knight, I don't think he's obliged to do it or whatever just musing.

I really wish they would make more Torchwood before Barrowman becomes noticeably older. When the lead character is immortal, there is a clear window for this show, and it will start to close. As said above, there clearly is interest, and all 4 series got good ratings. I wonder what the holdup is?

Actually, rating for Torchwood have always been all over the board. By the end of season 2 the numbers were decent but not stellar, which is why for a third season they decided to go for a mini-series with the intent of wrapping up the show, but then Children of Earth turned into a smash hit. RTD's intent when he moved to America was to supervise an Americanized Torchwood for a season and then turn the reigns over to someone else,. However, Miracle Day didn't do the kind of numbers Starz was expecting and hoping for which is why we haven't seen anything on TV since.
