These are the Voyages

I don't think that it was a particularly bad episode but ENT was already closed after Demons/ Terra Prime. All of the seven main character got something typical (for their character) to do and the two last scenes, Archer's speech about social instead of scientific exploration and that we are all connected plus Trip and T'Pol mourning their dead baby, were sublime.
So TATV felt anticlimactic, like a finale after the finale, and even if it had been a better episode it would have paled in comparison to what I consider the actual finale.

A Valentine to the fans, we were told.

I never knew valentine was a synonym for a rancid and stinking pile of shit.

I rewatched this last night after reading this thread. I remember hating it when it aired, but over time, I've warmed to it to a degree. It's still a problematic episode. It's not all that great, but I really think the disappointment in the series ending on this episode is what created the hatred for it. It's not even a good season finale. It's a middling episode which should have been buried in a dead portion of the season.

What bugged me the most was that, outside of the scene in Trip's quarters, nobody seemed to give a shit he was dead. During the pre-speech scenes, the guy wasn't mentioned once. No, "Trip would have loved to see this." Hell, I would appreciated a bit where the crew is sitting in the audience with an empty seat next to Malcolm and someone comes over as asks "is this seat taken?" They all kind of look at each other sadly and Malcolm says something like "No, he couldn't make it." Also, and I know it's fanboyish, I would have bought the Riker story more if it took place during his time on the Titan. He and Trio are obviously well past their TNG years and it didn't fit "The Pegasus " storyline anyway. Whatever...

Other than that, it was enjoyable on some level, but mostly it was a misfire. Not as bad as Trip Getting Pregnant, but nothing I would have considered a "Valentine to the Fans" or any sort of series or season ender. Especially coming off "Terra Prime," which was just amazing.

They should have made Terra Prime a three-parter with a few minor adjustments to the ending plus some additional story, it could have been a very honorable series finale.

I think it's wonderful that the B's FINALLY gave us the resolution to the Pegasus story, it only took 3 more entire Star Trek series but they did it! Talk about fan service!

I'm still of the opinion that the whole thing was about murdering Enterprise to make room for a Captain Riker series - and all the culprits in the plot were at the scene of the crime, which is why Frakes and Sirtis were in it. They ended up murdering Trek on TV altogether, instead.

I don't hold it against Sirtis. But I've never trusted Frakes, and I never will. I can never forgive him, for the death of my Trek.

I always thought that Riker was the worst regular of TNG and one of the top three worst of the whole franchise, if not THE worst.

If that were true, don't you think TATV would have been set on the Titan post-Nemesis instead of during "The Pegasus?"

There were no plans for a Riker series. ENT was already murdered by UPN.

How did UPN manage that?

Seriously?

Seriously?

I am not American.

Well, ok...but does that mean that you haven't actually seen the show? If you haven't (or are not privy to UPN's actions regarding the show), then yeah, I can see how you wouldn't know. I'd be happy to explain if that's the case.

As a matter of fact I've seen the show many many times, so you can take for granted that I'll understand any allusion that you'll make to the show itself but I haven't seen it on UPN. So I know nothing about that.
