Ido Bachelet announces 2015 human trial of DNA nanobots to fight cance

Interesting link but please try and add some thought of your own when making a new thread. Don't just drop a link on us. The idea is to spark a discussion. This isn't your twitter feed.

"And so it begins" doesn't really count as valuable input unless you have a professional career in doing voice-overs for movie trailers.

It would be kind to know what is it that "begins". A story that includes both nanobots and fighting cancer is exciting enough to make me go "WOAH! And so it begins!" myself. I've been very thrilled about nanomedicine, and I always found it an incredibly awesome concept – even though I don't know enough about it to comment much. But something tells me that more than excitement about nanotechnology and/or cancer is implied here.

It is about bloody time.

And by what he means is that what is beginning is fighting cancer on a different level, and perhaps different diseases too. The idea of removing and/or destroying cancerous cells on a cellular level is something I've heard of before, but I'm anxious to see how it will work in real life. I would like nothing better than for chemotherapy to be left the dark ages where it belongs.

On the downside, if the nanites aren't programmed properly, they could also end up attacking healthy cells as well. I think that there is also the issue of whether we should keep them inside the body (which I don't find a good idea: what if they get stuck, and cause an infection or other complications like other artificial objects in the bodies can cause), or if they should be programmed to exit our body when their job is done, get sanitized, and programmed for their next patient.

This is the most exciting news I have heard in a long time. A technological solution to the scourge of mankind. Amazing!

There will be more announcements in the near future, soon it'll be commonplace, but this indeed is very big news, despite having a long way to go!

Im also grateful for the potential cure to cancer, having had loved ones go through it before, and I still where my Livestrong band for my dad who died from it.
