Should I bother with Voyager and Enterprise?

I've been watching a lot of Trek lately, because basically everything is on Netflix these days. I started out with DS9, as I have the most nostalgia with DS9. I really liked it, and so I tried TNG, as it is the most popular of the Treks. I started from season 3, as a friend recommended that I do so. I just finished TNG, and to be honest, I was a bit bored by it. I didn't think it was bad, just rather uninteresting. Now I'm left with an interesting decision. I've heard that Voyager was not very good, and that Enterprise was even worse. Is it worth watching these series, or should I just skip them and move on to the movies?

I prefer Voyager and (the second half of) Enterprise to TNG and DS9. But what about TOS? It's the original and the best.

I started with TOS in 1966. Of the later series, I watch Voyager the most. It's less stiff upper lip than TNG, it has some interesting mind bender episodes, and it introduces an interesting character midway through, though at the loss of another. But like TNG, it's mostly episodic so there are few continuing storylines as in DS9.

If you liked the serialized nature of DS9, you might enjoy Enterprise, though its first two seasons are episodic. Its time period though is set before TOS and the other series.

The easy answer to your basic question is yes, watch them both. It is worth your time, make your own opinions.

I love Voyager, all the way through (sure there's some stickers). I dislike the last two seasons of Enterprise, but you might feel different.

Again, watch them both.

:)

If you are a Star Trek fan, which you clearly must be if you're on here then I would have to say yes, Voyager is often derided in these parts but I think it has a lot to recommend it, the Doctor is one of the best characters in the entire franchise IMO, plus as another poster put there's some mind-bender episodes, there's the Borg, species 8472, plus loads of other stuff. I enjoyed it easily as much as TNG and nearly as much as DS9.

The Next Generation is all the STAR TREK I'll ever need. The rest of the franchise is just gravy and I watch it all, including the cartoon. But only TNG truly satisfies ...

Why would you let others decide what you might like? You never know how good something is untill you try.

Plenty of movies and shows out there that others loved and I disliked and the other way around. :) So go for it.

It sounds as if you haven't seen either VOY or ENT, so really the only way to find out if you like them is it watch them. Both shows have their fans and their detractors and those people inbetween who feel that there was plenty of missed opportunites to make them better.

Exactly - I'm a massive Motion Picture and Nemesis fan, and you'll find tons of people on here who hate those movies. Just give them a try - it's a Star Trek TV show at the end of the day!

You may as well watch them. I didn't like either one, but I can't discuss them with any credibility if I hadn't watched them.

Simple answer - yes !

It's all Trek and they're just not making it anymore. Personally I like DS9 more than other series, but am still a little jealous you have unwatched Trek of any sort.

Voyager isn't great, but it is still enjoyable, especially after the first couple of seasons. Enterprise season 4 is pretty good, even if 1 to 3 don't do much for me.

I'd watch it all though...

It really depends how much free time you have. You will probably find things you like in Voyager and Enterprise but might not like them overall. Depends if you think that is worth a 250 hour time commitment.

This.

Both shows have some really high highs but some dreadful lows and the lows are far more abundant.

If you watched them both, you may have to muddle more through Enterprise (IMHO, but the payout is greater) but they were both quite enjoyable in the end, and if you already watched TOS, TNG, and DS9, the other shows are probably right up your alley.

Sometimes, when I see a trailer for a movie that doesn't sway me, I'll wait for friends who shares my interests in movies to see it and based on their enjoyment, I may or may not waste me time on it. If I get mixed reviews, I'll see it.

It's called word of mouth. Most production companies take that in account.

I think (although I haven't watched a lot in a while) Voyager at its best and worse is pretty comparable to TNG at its best (or near-best) and worse, a similar style but with Voyager tending to have more humor and/or action, but a lot of the appeal or lack thereof of both Voyager and Enterprise, if not most television, comes from whether you like or dislike the characters, a very individual judgment, so you should try to watch a few episodes to make that judgment.

After 172 episodes of Voyager, you might feel like you're done with Star Trek for while. Which would be a shame. Enterprise at least, left me wanting more, despite that finale.
