..Star Trek 3.

http://variety.com/2014/film/news/star-trek-3-sets-july-8-2016-release-date-1201386320/

Paramount Pictures will release “Star Trek 3″ on July 8, 2016 — marking the 50-year anniversary of the television launch of the landmark science-fiction series.

Wednesday’s announcement came a day after Justin Lin signed on to direct the third installment in Paramount’s rebooted “Star Trek” franchise. The hiring of Lin came two weeks after Roberto Orci backed away from the directing gig.

563 days and counting...

Time for the countdown thread?

It kind of sucks for me, July is a dead cinema season around here due to summer vacation etc. Which means I'll have to wait until September at the earliest to see it.

Other than that :bolian:

Oh, but I understand that CBS is premiering the Captain Worf miniseries that day. No one will be going out to the movies. :(

But when will they be able to schedule the Axanar project? :(

By the way, with that announcement Paramount invalidated an estimated 233259240395827349582465926438 posts made on various Websites over the past three months.

So there's less than two years till the release of the next Abrams-Trek movie? It just got a new director... yesterday. Considering the time commitment involved with decent CGI... (Star Wars 7 wrapped filming and they're not releasing till December 2015). And the time it takes to write a script... (unless they're going with Orci's madman conspiracy theorist script). And scheduling all the actors and crew... (unless they were already set and ready to go). And actually filming the thing...

This has all the fixings of a massive train wreck.

well it makes sense to not go for may. xmen, captain america 3, alice in wonderland 2. will fight over may-june, so trek 3 can have a fresh start at the end of july.

Glad they picked a date and glad it's in 2016 in time for the anniversary. Looking forward to it!

North Korea permitting.

Other than that, the 2009 film was originally trailered as Coming Christmas 2008 wasn't it?

Wouldn't surprise me if it's an opening gambit, with another 2016 date to fall back on.

Bold prediction: On July 9th 2016, the world does not end.

Sorry. It already ended the day Lin was hired to be the director, r maybe it was the day Orci was hired to be the director,
or maybe it was the day Bad Robot was hired to be the production company, I get confused sometimes.
