Survivor Blood v. Water: Take Two

Looks like the Amazing Race topic is gone so might as well post this here.
It's not gone. Assuming you have the auto-subscribe function enabled (I can't remember if it's a default or not) the easiest place to find it would be in your subscribed threads. Otherwise there's the search function. And at the bottom of the view of all threads in TV & Media, under Display Options you can set it to show older threads if you want to just page through to find it. I saw that this thread got bumped and had a feeling that someone might have done an Amazing Race spoiler-dump on it, so I'm pretty glad I didn't click before I watched the finale.

WARNING TO ANYONE READING THIS WHO SOMEHOW DIDN'T GET SPOILED BUT WAS ABOUT TO READ MY POST SPECIFICALLY FOR SOME REASON -- SPOILERS FOR AMAZING RACE SEASON 25 BELOW

I like Amy & Maya as people but is anyone else annoyed that the winner needed a fortunate rule change to win? I kind of feel like, even though as people they are awesome, they are the least deserving winners since Flo & Zach in season 3 threatened to quit the entire way through and got saved by non elimination legs twice in a row.
Ehh, I'm mostly over it. The wrestlers just got saved by non-elimination too. I mean, I get why they're mad, because they thought it was down to 3 and they changed it up on them, but logically what right do they have to complain? And the weirdo dentists also finished last in a leg. Sure they had the save, which is kind of bullshit, and they got non-elimination legged. Having that fucking thing in their pockets for pretty much the whole game probably helped them. Anytime they start falling behind, they don't panic because they know they won't be eliminated. Psychologically the game was easy mode because of that.

Really the weirdo jesus surfers should probably be the winners in my no more non-elimination legs plz view.
I don't like the idea of having five teams meet for the first time for the race next season. You'd think they'd have learned their lesson after Mark & Mallory.
Yeah, that shit is hokey. Not gonna lie. And it seems like a way to get a bunch of 'unemployed/bartender/aspiring actors' from LA into the cast. Could be worse, at least it's not EVERY team. Maybe watching those teams flame out will be good entertainment. Or maybe, just maybe, one team will find true love and a million dollars to start their new lives together

Phil should have taken the Save and then told them it was a non-elimination leg. Survivor contestants don't get coddled like that with idols, so why should TAR contestants?

The teams meeting for the first time sounds interesting. There are people who want to be on the show and would be great at it, but don't have any potential partners. I know a person like this on another forum.

The whole non elimination leg thing arises from need. The logistics of a large amount of teams makes it hard to start with more than 11 or 12 (And would make the first few episodes a lot less watchable), but they need a certain amount of episodes in a season.

At the beginning it was a bigger problem because there was no penalty for last place. Then they did that stupid 'Beg for money' thing. I'm okay with the speed bump as a solution. What I wish they'd ax is the U-turns. It basically lets you vote somebody out.

I don't mind the non-elimination legs, but I sometimes wonder if the legs they're slated for are set in advance.

I don't mind that Maya and Amy got to race to the end but I wonder why they didn't have to face a speed bump.

I do think the wrestlers should have also been allowed to race to the end instead of getting eliminated in the middle of the leg though. Not that it would have changed anything- pretty sure they would have bombed in the freight yard.

Sometimes I do wonder if the non-elimination legs are really set in advance. They do seem to save the more TV-friendly teams more often than not. Though I guess if they didn't set them in advance they probably would have made the dentists up their save.

I know that the first time they did "The leg is not over" was because they planned a non-elimination leg in a country where begging is illegal. So they were forced to find a way to keep the number of teams the same without having a non elimination leg.

They probably did the 4-3 thing this season because they had to plan for either the save being used or not being used. Like, if the save had been used, there would have been five teams and it would have been an elimination leg.

I decided to try and rewatch some of the previous seasons to see if it could still be entertaining knowing how it ends. I started with Marquesas because back when the first three seasons aired I taped them on VHS and stopped doing that after the third season, so season four is the first season I haven't already seen twice.

It's interesting what you remember and what you don't. It's interesting how bad Boston Rob played the first time considering he played arguably the best game in Survivor history his fourth time around. It makes you think who else could turn into a great player if he played again. And I had no memory of the constant minor injuries and Sean's race commentary. Also, watching from the first episode, your knowledge of how things turned out doesn't quite make sense.

After this I'm definitely skipping Thailand. I might skip right to season 9 just because for some reason my memory of seasons 1-8 is far more salient than the seasons after that. Maybe because I just thought about it more in between episodes in that period. I can name most of the characters in season 7 and the order they lost, and I can only remember like four or five names from season 9.
