ENTER: TV/Media Avatar Contest - Christmas

Me and Starkers have settled on the obvious theme: Christmas. No major limitations; as long as it's from a show or movie and has something to do with Christmas, it's good. Just no SciFi/Fantasy, though.

Regular board av rules apply. Voting thread will go up on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day.

Dang...all my favorites, the Grinch, It's a Wonderful Life, Christmas Carol---they're fantasy films!

OK. One of my favorites that actually ISN'T a fantasy:

"Merry Christmas, mother#&%$!"

This one's a stretch. This particular image doesn't really portray the holiday in any way, and the movie itself isn't particularly a Christmas themed movie. So I'll have to say no to this, sorry.

Christmas Jones, the world's least convincing nuclear scientist!

When we agreed on "Christmas" as a theme, I kind of assumed we meant the holiday, specifically. Though I suppose it technically fits the rules as worded, and you are the co-runner of this contest so I guess it counts. ;)

I definitely associate Die Hard with Christmas. It's one of my top three Christmas movies (with Bad Santa and A Christmas Story).

If you really have to disqualify Die Hard despite there being a christmas tree in the background and the movie explicitly being about terrorists ruining John McClanes christmas day with his family, then I enter this new one.

From "Weihnachten bei Hoppenstedts" by German comedy genius Loriot depicting/parodying the traditional german christmas celebrations in a very normal family. :)

No votes guaranteed, except by those who actually know it. ;)

And the cool one:

I'd personally go with this one. :)

As for Die Hard, the way I see it, it's not particularly a Christmas movie, but an action movie set within the holiday season, the same way Iron Man 3 is set during the Holidays, and the sentiments therein are never explicitly about Christmas.

I'd personally go with this one. :)

Yeah. As much as I love "The Little Lord Fauntleroy" with Alec Guinness, that picture is simply not of good quality and doesn't translate well to av-size.

So, yeah, I'm going with the Christmas message from Riggs & Murtaugh.

As for the 'Die Hard' discussion, it should be admitted to run, since the opening post states:

No major limitations; as long as it's from a show or movie and has something to do with Christmas, it's good. Just no SciFi/Fantasy, though.

And there's no denying 'Die Hard' has at least something to do with Christmas.

It's up to the contest runner to decide what is or what isn't allowed.

I guess the fine line is what is considered "holiday themed," or is it just tangentially-related to Christmas in some minor fashion. The contest-runner gets to be the judge.
