Paramount should leave out the star trek titlle for Trek 3.

it may be that one of the reasons why many star trek films don't earn as much is because people usually get turned off by the tilte of star trek in the film and are sort of brainwashed by the mythology that star trek is for nerds only. they are more familiar with star wars and anything asides of star wars with the name star, they show little interest. its sad but it is a realty.

paramount should use the same formula that WB used with their superhero films namely Batman and Superman. ditch the core title and call it something else. For instance the recent superman film. it was called man of steel not superman: man of steel.

If paramount uses this marketing formula, the new film should just be marketed on its title alone. for instance if they decide to call it star trek: a new dawn. let them just call it a new dawn and market it as more of a sci fi film like interstellar than a star trek film. it could help trek a lot as it did with superman.

Man of steel made more money than any of the superman films and it was because of the marketing. I wonder how much money it would have made if the film was actually great.

there is only one star now and that is star wars, Anything else with the word star will finish at second place and will always be in star wars shadows and this is why I believe star trek 3 should not be marketed as star trek as its leading title especially coming off the juggernaut that will be star wars episode 7.

They tried that with Enterprise, and it failed miserably.

I think, follow the lead of Star Trek Into Darkness or the old novel Trek to Madworld and incorporate the name (or part of it) into the title.

Just no.

Another no.

If Paramount thinks "Star Trek" is passé, then they should go and start a totally brand-new franchise from scratch.

Another no. Disagree completely.

Star Trek should be prominent in the title. It's the other part of the movie title they need to work on.

Do I need to drag the CumberNope in here?

Got to go with disagree as well.I'm no comic book geek but I do know that Superman was sometimes called the Man of Steel, and that Batman had been referred to as the Dark Knight. But isn't the next Batman/Superman film currently titled Batman vs Superman?

I understand why people are disagreeing/trust me if it was left up to me.I will keep star trek as well in the title but from a business standpoint, I may look at other lucrative alternatives that may help the film make more money.

The only way in which leaving "Star Trek" off the title would improve the prospects for a big space movie would be if they subtitled it "A James Cameron Film."

We've already been down this road. UPN left Star Trek out of the title for Enterprise, feeling the Star Trek name would scare away viewers. By the third season when the ratings were in the toilet, they demanded that Star Trek be added to the title, feeling it would attract viewers.

Bottom line, the Star Trek name will always be used in the title of any future Trek TV series or movie.

That was tried, by default, in some of Europe for Star Trek IV: as The Search for Spock hadn't been released in France, the French distributors reckoned audiences might be puzzled if they skipped straight from II to IV, and marketed the new film as The Voyage Home, complete with a new title card.
At least some British cinemas ran the French prints (thankfully with an English soundtrack), as the first time I saw it the title came up as
THE VOYAGE HOME
followed by a tiny, bracketed (Star Trek IV).

but we are talking of a film this time and not a tv series. a film based on two established films with the same actors. the only difference is the film will be more marketed as an epic scifi film than as a star trek film.

Didn't ST09 take more at the box office than the TNG films combined? And that was simply called Star Trek, so it might be fair to say the name works.

Dropping Trek from the title would feel to me like surrendering. Rather than surrendering, how about Trek takes the war to the next level.

Both nuTreks raised Trek a little bit closer to Wars level so what's needed, imo, is the 3rd and hopefully final push up the hill in Star Trek 3 which proves to everyone once and for all Star Trek is a Wars worthy contender. It has to be huge and it has to take chances.

Question is, do TPTB have the ***** to do what it takes? [/beating wings against the air]

Paramount should open its wallet and pay Robert Downey Jr to appear in Trek 3.
There's your billion dollars right there.

trek cant win a war with star wars even though I think star trek does has more depth than star wars.
