STID's Khan was not sexy

index.jpg
<- Supposed to be sexy?:wtf::ack:

Well, that's not the best pic I've seen of him, but yeah. The voice and personality add a lot, but for an older man, he has a nice body too.

Yeah, it's more than looks alone. It was the swagger, confidence, and presence, too. Especially Montalban as Khan in "Space Seed". It's how Tony Kornheiser metaphorically desribed the affect the late Ben Bradlee had on a room when he walked in, even into his seventies: everything stopped, and the men took one step back while the women took one step towards him. Some got it, some don't.

As far as that pic being sexy goes, I wouldn't mind looking like that at age 61 (Montalban's age when the movie was being shot).

How evil was he, really? It was diffucult to tell if this Khan had the dreams of conquest of his "Space Seed" counterpart. He only goes batshit total destruction once Kirk double-crosses him.

He crushed a dude's skull with his hands, shot up a room full of Starfleet officers, blew up an entire building killing at least hundreds and tried to destory the Enterprise.

Am sorry not evil for you?

Does anybody know if the deleted Khan shower scene made it into the extended release of the movie?
Someone suggested that it was a gag, made especially for Abrams' bit on Conan. No idea if that's true or not. It's not among the ID deleted scenes (not that that means much, we know a scene with Kirk's mom was shot in the Kelvin sickbay, as well as with Nero's wife in a field for ST'09, neither of which have been released)

Plus
Broke Carol's leg for no good reason.
Crashed into a heavily populated city and likely killed many thousands of people.

Yes until then he was a nice guy. ;)
Unless you worked for Section 31 or were one of those senior officers he killed or were one of the Klingons he wiped out.

I'm sure he had no intentions of betraying Kirk until Kirk stunned him on The Vengeance.

I'm glad though Khan did not use his sexiness to 'turn' a female crew member. But a bit more charisma and less menace would have been nice IMO.

We absolutely needed that shower scene. It's a strange thing to see someone so menacing at their most vulnerable, naked in a shower. I think it would have been a huge addition to the character to have included it.

Yes, we really do need that scene re-included. For...plot reasons. :shifty:

^ Maybe in the next movie there can be a scene of Kirk sitting in his quarters watching a recording of Khan in the shower on his monitor?

:)

``Captain Kirk. I see your experiences on the frontier have made you ... ... ... creepy.''

Reminds me of a joke from SF Debris:

"Now, if you'll excuse me, it's the Barrett's anniversary and I have a date with a re-purposed security camera." ;)

Personally, I enjoy Cumberbatch's performance, and have done so since "Amazing Grace." Khan is just another nerd fun time for me, and the way he carries himself is just a quiet menace. Everything he said carried with it a certain weight, and just the right amount of danger.

His soliloquy at Kirk in the bring is one of my favorite moments :)

Yeah, I like Khan, and would even put him in the "sexy" category.

One of the things I liked most about STID is that Khan didn't betray Kirk.

Kirk betrayed Khan. Maybe Kirk was right to order Scotty to stun Khan. Maybe Khan was plotting, waiting for the right moment, but we don't know.

Well, there was never anything to betray. Kirk made it clear he would still do everything he could to see that Khan would be brought to justice and receive the full punishment possible, even if he cooperated. What's true is at that moment, Khan needed to get Marcus out of the way as much as Kirk did, so it was a momentary truce or alliance of convenience. I think both knew the hostilities between them would start up again after they beat Marcus.

However, it probably did stun Khan (pun intended) that Kirk was sly enough to turn on him, first.

CummerBuns was a little cold in the role, IMHO, but

...it is very cold in Space

Comparing him to Montalban for hotness and appeal is not fair, of course.

James T. Kirk: The enemy of my enemy is my friend.
Spock: An Arabic proverb attributed to a prince who was betrayed and decapitated by his own subjects.
James T. Kirk: Well, still, it's a hell of a quote.

I love this back and forth and the question of what side Khan actually is on. It is part of the appeal of Cumberbatch. He is able to sound sincere as he states that they left Earth because people were not ready for what he was trying to lead humanity too.

This could be construed as blasphemous even on this board but I think I prefer the STID Khan to ST2 Khan.

In my mind there is no doubt that Montalban plays the character with much more Shakespearean charisma but his Khan never truly lived up to the hype of what Khan was suppose to be.

While the original Khan showed elements of his super human nature and his cruelty it never fully manifested the way it was with Cumberbatch.

And even CumberKhan needed to be fooled but even then that wasn't his undoing as a matter of fact they never made Benny's Khan look as foolish as OG Khan who lived through the 90's but still didn't know that space was three dimensional.

^ I agree Khan 2 was more superhuman than Khan 1, who just made great speeches.

Wut?
Khan 2 was forced by Marcus to do evil things. Then he saved our heroes (defeated a platoon of Klingons by standing still). Then he was captured and we felt sorry for him. Then he worked with our heroes and we liked him. Then Spock 1 said he was evil and he started being evil. Character development!

Captain's log, supplemental. Alongside the SS Botany Bay for ten hours now. A boarding party of engineering and medical specialists are now completing their examination of the mysterious vessel. Attempts to revive other sleepers await our success or failure with the casualty already beamed over. Doctor McCoy is frankly amazed at his physical and recuperative power.

MCCOY: He'll live.

KIRK: My compliments.

MCCOY: No, I'm good, but not that good. There's something inside this man that refuses to accept death. Look at that. Even as he is now, his heart valve action has twice the power of yours and mine. Lung efficiency is fifty percent better.

(McGivers enters)

KIRK: An improved breed of human. That's what the Eugenics War was all about.

MCCOY: I'd estimate he could lift us both with one arm. It will be interesting to see if his brain matches his body.
