"Krypton" coming to SyFy from David Goyer

Superman's grandfather? Depending on what continuity they draw on, that could be either Jor-El I (pre-Crisis) or Seyg-El (post-Crisis). What they're doing sounds kind of like Byrne and Mignola's World of Krypton miniseries, where Seyg-El was introduced.

Though actually it sounds a lot like Caprica -- a drama set on a doomed alien world a generation or two before its destruction. I guess we'll have to get used to the idea of Kryptonian architecture looking uncannily like Vancouver...

Well I suppose if it's written really well it could work, but I can't say the premise alone interests me all that much (and that's speaking as a major Superman fan). Mainly because in the past the Krypton stuff has always been the least interesting part of the story.

MOS came the closest to making it interesting, but I still wouldn't have wanted to spend anymore time there than we already did.

I'm a huge Superman fan, and I'm a huge sci-fi fan, but I don't think I would be particularly interested to see a Krypton tv show. Particularly if they're like in the comics; stuffy and isolationist and biologically forbidden from leaving their planet.

Got a problem.

Are they going to ignore the movie or support the movie?

In the movie there is no fuck###.

Babies are made in factories.

Why bother showing Clark's ancestors if they're not really his ancestors.

The next million generations of Krytonians are already mapped out and planned, and nothing short of the apocalypse is going to get in the way of that plan.

If you die accidentally, and then the factory tries to give your corpse a son? The wrong family with different values will raise your family?

Is there a genetic lineage?

Because if you find a girl to spend your life with, and you're not going to make your own babies, but just instead wait for the factory to shuttle over a new one every couple years until one of these clones survives childhood... No seriously, unless they dictate who your wife is, or who your husband is, and you might as well not even live together because sure as custard, the factory is mixing up babies in a big mixing bowl genetic material that belongs to the both of you whether you like it or not, or maybe each child is only specific to a husband or a wife and each spouse has to deal with at least one child who they have no genetic affiliation with?

Kryptonians don't need genetic samples from parents. No deposits. they have the tech to manipulate junk/blank into any shaped DNA they feel like. Which is how they can make your great, great, great, great, great Grand child today, with out bothering with any of the intermediatry steps of wht the 6 generations between you and she did with their lives.

Do Kryptonians from the new movie even raise their own kids?

I can see the babies not being released from the clone factory until they are 20 and ready to contribute to society as workers, and replacement workers with no fricking idea who their parents are.

I don't want to watch the new movie again. It's shit. Nolan is overrated.

Thats just one version of Krypton. I don't even think its the current one. Like most of these shows they'll borrow from several different versions and make up new stuff.

None of the other TV shows support the movies, so why should this one?

I think the biggest concern is budget. If this was on ABC or FOX I might feel less concerned, but Skiffy?! *shudder*

Well I guess we could see the proto Doomsday, and maybe some clone battle action, Mongul, and Brainiac. However it would be a good series to introduce the rest of DC's universal community, Rann, Thanagar, Daxam, and maybe some Manhunters just for fun. Anyone could drop in on Krypton for a visit.

I'll follow the pre-production to see what their ideas are, but I can't say I'll get too invested in this.

More likely: Sharknadoes.

That's just the post-Crisis version. There have been many interpretations of Krypton over the decades, most of them more inviting than that. And of course, like most TV adaptations, this one will probably reinvent things in its own way.

Syfy's done very impressive visual effects work on shows like the Stargate and Galactica franchises, Eureka, and Warehouse 13, and on their various miniseries. They have more than proven that they're capable of mounting good-looking SF/fantasy productions. And lately they've committed themselves to reinventing their image as a more ambitiously science-fiction-driven network, to compete with things like Game of Thrones.

I think the problem is that people tend to think of the Sharknado/Mansquito-style Z-movie parodies as representative of the network's typical output. But that's just one flavor of their programming, there to serve a particular niche, and they're cheap on purpose, because that's part of the joke. And they're from a totally different programming source than Syfy's scripted dramas and miniseries.
