ID4 Part 2 officially greenlit

Flying Spaghetti Monster

Vice Admiral

I'm actually all for this. Odd because I wasn;t for many years, because while ID4 was a fantastic time at the movies and perhaps the lynchpin of science fiction films in the 90's, I didn't think there was enough substance to the universe to make me care about another one.

My mind has changed now that the film is about 20 years old. The talk about the sequel's premise makes it sound so simple, and so irresistible. It's the kind of thing that even people who have never seen the first film can come on board with.

The idea is that twenty years ago we were invaded by aliens. We won, despite the odds. We unraveled their tech form their crashed ships. 20 years later they return.. but this time we are ready for them. We use their technology to open up a can of whoop-ass!

This premise is remarkably simple, but let's be clear: it's also unique. In almost every other alien invasion film, humanity is completely overwhelmed. That won't happen here. It's never been done before. I hope that the rumors are true. After all, one of my favorite scenes in the original Transformers was the Skorponok scene.. that Skorponok was dangerous but he was no match for the tactics of our Air Force.

i personally would've liked the sequel to be "Memorial Day", where Earthhas taken the tech, and wind conquering other worlds instead.

A combo of Aliens & Humans fight to help humanity regain its humanity.

I'd also have a lot of African, East Asian & SOuth Asian actors....to reflect that many of the main cities were devastated, and the remaining populations are nonwhite,

It'll still be something of a rehash, the aliens invade again probably with some new tricks and humanity being the underdog wins again. But I do have to wonder what the title of the movie will be, "Labor Day", "Memorial Day", "Arbor Day"? :techman:

I'm all for Arbor Day or Thanksgiving (which would make it olitically relevant).
But yeah, premise sounds good, one of my favourite moments in the film are the shots at the end of the downed ships all around the world, I always imagined what it would be like to explore those things...

Independence Day 2: Independence Harder

The first one was ID4...the next would be EGO 5, and then SUPEREGO 6

Memorial Day for #2, and then end it with New Year's Day....or alternatively, Mother's Day (with some rude explanation for that)

Apparently not as described. Earth used the 20 years since the invasion to reverse engineer the tech and use it.

If it turns out they're on equal footing with the Aliens then bring it on.. it could be refreshing to see Earth actually having a good chance other than to lean on a small group of heroes to accomplish their Hail Mary/Suicide mission to hit the enemy at a critical point and win the day.

I'd like to see whole wings and airgroups of man made spacefighter duking it out over New York with alien fighters while Earth battleships engage the Alien mothership in space.

Military porn at its finest! :techman:

Actually, this could be good. I enjoyed the first one.

Earth will still be the underdog and yet again earth'l get invaded. Shielded ships going up against shielded ships is a mere stalemate and I doubt if the computer virus will work again.

Well i sure don't expect a SF masterpiece for the ages but i hope it'll be something else than brilliant small group save us all.

The premise sounds different enough and CGI technology today is capable to deliver nearly any visual that's needed so i expect much to be blown up (and if Emmerich is at the helm consider the White House gone too.. again ).

Sure it will - just in reverse. Now that the Mac platform is a dedicated Intel chipset, the aliens know this and have built viruses of their own to shut our systems down. Mark my words - you heard it here first!

Oh, and I prefer "Boxing Day: The Day We Knock Them Out For Good!" as the title.

In all seriousness, though, I am looking forward to this. The original was one of my favorite 90's sci fi movies. Would love to see a continuation of the franchise.
