... even the original series depicted a green Orion woman who not only spoke, but even quoted Shakespeare
But there is a bit of doubt if Marta was in fact even green. She did leave green make-up on Kirk (okay, it was a production mistake, but still), so Marta might not have been Orion at all.

An addition piece of the puzzle for the "green animal women" possible not being Orion is the the Orion women on Enterprise seem to be about the same physical size as a average Human women. Green Vina in the last scene we see her towers over Pike, she appears to be seven feet tall. Pike is definitely looking up at her face.

Slight deviation from the backstory topic (and Orion slave girls)...
I didn't like his back story so I just choose to ignore it.
And I really didn't like how JJ changed the way the enterprise phasers fire. I never thought they were like a machine gun. It's more like a dreadnought firing her main battery. Massive power, but takes time to load.
Just my opinion, of course.

@TGirl: Isn't Pike actually sitting down in that pic?

Edit: Actually I think he's kneeling, because he's trying to escape and he suddenly finds that it's a solid stone wall there.

Also, IIRC, Vina (in green mode) appeared to be the same size as most of the other people in the dance scene. She didn't tower over any of them.

The script says...

...animal Vina steps into his path. seeming taller than Winter [Pike], perhaps even stronger.

...so whether she looks bigger during the dance scene or not, the intention of the scene above is that she seems bigger than him.

Vina: "Me want 'snu-snu'!"

Pike: "...ulp..."

Sincerely,

I never thought they were like a machine gun.

We should remember that the ship was targeting twenty-something tiny missiles at the time. Firing twenty-something tiny bolts would seem like a good choice there... Although it would have been fun to see two to four continuous beams just sweeping those missiles out of the sky, too.

Even though Spock Prime flat out says it happened that way in his timeline. :wtf:
What he said was that Kirk's dad lived to see Kirk become Captain of the Enterprise; nothing was mentioned about the Enterprise launching.

It's either implied that both happen close together or simply likely that that's how it happened.

Semantics aside, Kirk's father lived to see the Enterprise, and his son, on their five year mission. The original Spock was the one to say it, there are few more trustworthy sources in Trek.
No semantics; The E launching bit is adding details the original conversation did not include. TOSKirk's life and "estimable record" is completely compatible with the conversation though.
