Or his BFF: A Federation arbiter who has a tendency to excessively pontificate in the council chambers and fill dead air with timely anecdotes.
Y'know, seeing Denny Crane in the new movie is suddenly sounding like a good idea to me.
No idea where that came from.

"Prime" Kirk comes looking for "Prime" Spock to take him home, somehow, and the big reveal is that they aren't from what we consider the Primeverse, either! Their Kirk lived past Veridian III.
I can only hope he will turn down this deal, and choose not to appear in this JJ travesty called Star Trek.
LOL! Do you really think that after Shatner literally begged for a part in the new ST films he is going to turn down this role?
You may not enjoy the new films, but many people do. Say what you will about Abrams films, but the fact is he saved this franchise that had one foot in the grave by giving the mass audience a film they could enjoy. J.J. Abrams made Star Trek relevant again for the first time in two decades

Yes I am so sick of hearing this bitch whining about how nuTrek is not real Trek.
There is NO FUCKING WAY that the 60's series could be replicated in a major theatrical production without massively retooling it to work with the audiences of today!
I have my own complaints about the new films, particularly in the dumbing down of the storylines to appeal to 16 year olds and younger.
But I'm still having fun with the movies, and happy that we're getting this much. TNG certainly blew its change on the first try way way worse.

I agree - granted in hindsight I'm not a fan of STID because of the whole Khan thing; mainly the ending was almost like a parody of TWOK but I enjoy this world and have been reading the comics.
I admit I am into fanw*nk and I would love the original Kirk and Spock back on screen together, in character, one last time. Nimoy isn't the only reason I enjoyed 09, it was a fun new origin story and you have to ride with the differences.
We have a script, a director, filming locations, a start date and concept artists. Things are very much in motion for Star Trek 3.
GalaxyX said:I'm not even sure the reimagining is even hinting at the original backstory.
...villains who spend 25 years fucking around in space doing nothing...

But in the movie the assistant is named Daniel Jackson.Only if James Spader plays his assistant.

EXACTLY, NO FUCKING WAY, so leave it alone. Reboot something else.
"to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations " has changed into "shoot 'em up, and after shoot some more, and while we at it, let's break all the known laws of physics"
Star Trek, sci-fi, oops sorry, fantasy.
This franchise, is the franchise of something completely different. But hey, it not matter, I not a fan anymore, so you all have fun.![]()
Designation of Trek as sci-fi or sci-fantasy aside, only in the most superficial level can you equate TOS with nuTrek. It doesn't hold under scrutiny. They are two totally different things with their own vibes.

Shatner should play Admiral Tiberius Kirk. The hero or the Romulan war. It's clear to everyone that he's showing early signs of Alzheimer's that everyone covers with nice euphemisms like "Mad Tribble." No one wants him involved in any strategic planning despite his best efforts to butt in, but his legendary status also means no one dare force him to retire. So instead they just stuff him away in a nice office at Starfleet HQ, where he spends most days sitting on his balcony drinking Aldebaran whisky.
