My opinions on fan films have gone from mockery to a new-found respect with the recent success of Star Trek Continues. Some might not like the phaser design since it looks a lot more like a current pistol, but I prefer to think of it as perhaps a descendent of the Plasma Pistols used by MACO on Enterprise. I like that for once, it has a trigger guard.

Well, right at the source of the spotlight... those are technically lens flares, too. Any time the light flares up past its source, that's a lens flare (watch the introduction of the the Enterprise in TMP, and you'll probably count more lens flares in that one scene than all of JJ's Star Trek films. But they're not stylistic elements there. Just natural cause-and-effect. So what you mean is no stylistic lens flares.
Yeah, I agree. I was just pointing out the difference in usage. Style vs strictly incidental flares. Pacific 201 will indeed have lens flares. Chiefly because I'm a fan of the bright, shimmery look often seen in real-life space photography due to harsh lighting conditions and so forth. But in this case, we're not using them because they look cool, but because they add a lot of authenticity to the footage which will be styled like real-life space footage.
This project looks to be one of the better such projects I've seen ... probably ever. I love everything about it so far. If you run a Kickstarter to fund this beast, I WILL back you. Also, with regards your Latin, I think you may have meant "Ad astra via mare." The word per means "throughout, during, by means of, or by(as in an oath)" whereas ad is the preposition equivalent to the English to. Per astra via mare could work.... it IS a correct sentence as far as I can tell, but it actually means something a little different than you may have thought, if your meaning is to suggest a going forth towards something. Excellent work, though... I want to build desktop models of all of your ships! --Alex

Thanks for your enthusiasm! It's really encouraging! You can definitely expect a Kickstarter in the future. Probably more towards April or May. There's gonna be a reasonably high standard for costume and set construction, so that alone is going to be a financial hurdle to overcome. As for the Latin, thanks for your tips. I struggled between "per" and "ad", because I wanted to communicate something a little more double-meaning (hard to explain concicesly), and my Latin-scholar brother suggested "per" due to some linguistic mumbo-jumbo I could call upon. But I totally forget what that was. I gotta reevaluate that and see if it's gonna be "per" or "ad" before I order the real plaque! And feel free to make models of the ships! It'd certainly help get the word out! And maybe I could feature the model in the actual film, too! Hey, no problem over here; I just jumped on the opportunity to expound on an aspect of the "look" of the movie, haha. I could go on about it for hours, so any time I can pipe up about an aspect of the movie, I do. xD
