It'll be interesting to see just how far BF are prepared to go with recasting lark. Frazer Hines' Patrick Troughton doesn't really count but we're getting a new Ben and Barbara as well. Nick Briggs did a surprisingly good 9th Doctor in 'Destiny of the Doctor', would he do it on a regular basis if they ever got the New Series licence?

I really don't mind. Christopher even suggested a similar recasting for the First Doctor, by the guy who performed him in Ian Levine's recon of of episodes 3 and 4 of Planet of the Giants and, of course, very briefly in Day of the Doctor.

Which leads me to my next question: Why NOT recast the First Doctor? I don't really understand the point.

The PR makes it clear that Tim Trelear isn't 'properly' playing the Pertwee Doctor: he's the narrator, who will do all dialogue not done by the main cast (Katy, Franklin and guest cast), including that of the Doctor.
Of course, he's obviously been chosen because he can do a decent Pertwee imitation. But they are putting it at one remove, as it were.

Can he? If that's the case, why didn't he do one in Light at the End? Sure, he was there, but ... he sounds nothing like Pertwee.

Agreed, he said was nothing like Pertwee.

I'm not keen on the idea of recasting, but if they got someone decent I might be open to it.
