The Roads Not Taken

As we know the idea behind the new Trek film is the many-worlds interpretation is an interpretation of quantum mechanics. Each path taken or decision made results in a new universe. So lets play what if with the events of ST09 and postulate what would happen if events played out differently

Universe 1) Nero and Spock arrive in the 23rd Century via Red Matter Black Hole. ST09 and STID happen.

  • Universe 1a) Nero arrives but Spock doesn't. Everything happens the same up to the point Kirk is marooned on Delta Vega. But there is no old Spock to guide Kirk, Spock takes the Enterprise to the Laurentine System. Nero destroys Earth and other Federation Worlds
  • Universe 1b) Only Spock arrives in the 23rd Century. He avoid discovery. Timeline proceeds as it does in the Prime Universe.
  • Universe 1c) Only Spock arrives in the 23rd Century. He then does a time warp around a sun and returns to his present.
  • Universe 1d)Only Spock arrives in the 23rd Century, He stays and guides things from behind the scenes so several catastrophic events are avoided

Others?

I don't think 1c could happen; the Jellyfish surely couldn't stand the stresses or the heat of getting so close to the sun.

1a: a. If Spock doesn't arrive, we can't be sure what Nero will do. The timeline would change when Nero sits waiting for Spock when he expects him, but for some reason, Spock doesn't emerge from the black hole. So, after twenty-five years of waiting and no Spock, what does Nero do? He could've gone crazy (crazier?) realizing he waited twenty-five years for nothing. He could've gone rogue and conquered worlds on his own. He could've gone to Romulus and turned his technology and knowledge over to them.

1b: By Orci and Kurtzman's use of time travel, it still could be a new universe, but it's 99.9999 percent like the one Spock left because he creates no real ripples.

1c: By the time travel logic of TOS, he could do this. The jellyfish would certainly be fast enough, and he could find a way to get extra shielding if he needed it just as the crew got what they needed from 1980s Earth to get back home in TVH.

1d: I doubt Spock Prime would do that.

Of course the biggest many worlds interpretation would be what would've happened if George Kirk hadn't destroyed the missile heading for his newly born son's shuttle.

What if Nero (and/or Spock) emerged in other places and times? Like, in Voyager's path near the end of their journey?

Dude, it flew right up to the supernova!

1a. Maybe not all the Federation worlds.
Its hard to say if the Laurentian fleet would have any effect on Nero. after all Nero's surprise would be gone.
Still the only reason they had a chance against Nero was that he wanted to make Spock pay. If PrimeSpock or nuSpock wasn't there maybe he would have wound down or ramped it up.
1c. Wouldn't Spock still be missing from his universe?

1c assumes that there is no split and Old Spock arrived in the past of his own universe.

I wonder if there's a universe that has 100 Spocks and 100 Neros. It would be bound to happen.
