The Walking Dead Season 5

Regarding Eugene, I wonder if perhaps Rick knows that Eugene is lying, but he recognizes that Abraham and everyone else need something to believe in.

And like Abraham said, just hanging on day by day, until you're dead, and leaving nothing but a legacy of the same for Carl and Judith probably doesn't appeal to him much either. So maybe he's saying "screw Georgia, let's get out of here, and see if there's anything else out there".

After the stuff that Glenn has been through, I never expected him to be lobbying to leave well enough alone with people who tried to gut him like a steer, just so we can have a round two with these guys.

I dunno, Glenn sort of had a point in not going back to Terminus. What would there to be gained? The place was on fire and flooded with walkers, why risk lives to go back in there to try and kill whomever might remain?

Not going in there wasn't about still trying to hold on to your humanity and leave people alive to give them a fighting chance but just a risk/benefit situation. It's easier to just take off and be safe than it is to risk lives to kill people who are probably as good as dead anyway.

If you don't make sure they're all dead, they come back and eat Bob.

The group didn't make sure the Governor was dead and Hershel's head was sawn off.

Don't let the enemy run without pursuit.

Are the Cylons the only ones that get that?

To be fair, they tried to take the fight to The Governor and Michonne even tried to find him, they just couldn't.

I so hope eating someone infected with the virus from his encounter with water walker ends up biting them in the ass, sick bastards

Rick is going to clean their house! and someone for the love of lord give Michone her sword back, I miss it :(

Speaking of dumb decisions. Why the fuck did Daryl break the car's head and tail lights? He does realize you can leave them in the OFF position right?

I was just reading a review of the episode. Variety reviewer pretty much sums up Gareth's character a, "Bond like villain."

Being Gareth’s captive for a second time is clearly a bad position for Bob to be in, but we discover that it’s even worse than it first appears as Gareth — in typical Bond villain fashion — monologues about his evil plan: “We didn’t want to hurt you, before… We didn’t want to pull you away from your group or scare you. These aren’t things that we want to do. They’re things we gotta do. You and your people took away our home. That’s fair play. Now we’re out here like everybody else, trying to survive. And in order to do that, we have to hunt. Didn’t start that way, eating people. It evolved into that, we evolved. We had to. And now, we’ve devolved into hunters. I told you, I said it, you can’t go back, Bob. I just hope you understand that nothing happening to you now is personal. Yeah, you put us in this situation and it’s almost a kind of cosmic justice for it to be you, but we would’ve done this to anybody. And we will. But at the end of the day, no matter how much we hate this ugly business, a man’s gotta eat… If it makes you feel any better, you taste much better than we thought you would.”

My car has automatic lights that can only be turned off once the car is running. Probably better safe than sorry.

At night you might still see the glow of the break lights.

Wonder how well you have to cook zombie meat before you eat it. I think it's over for those guys already.

I think it's clear based on Gareth's comment that Bob, '....tasted better than expected,' what's going on here.

Failure to dismiss him completely is not why I'm dissatisfied. Given the knowledge they've been exposed to, their failure to call into question anything about him or what he claims is.

Well, C'mon, Eugene adds up well? without any substantial questioning at all?

That's the dangling carrot: in the ZA would, 99% of the living population are about surviving in one way or another, not finding solutions. If that one percent is talking about ending the ZA, you are almost obligated to hear / explore the possibility.

Again the audience know Eugene is BSing, but he's explained enough, and now has Glenn as an advocate. On another note, I would not be surprised if producers pull a fast one by having Eugene rejected and/or killed, only to find out he was on the right track--even in his lie.

In the bigger picture, they have nothing to lose--other than dealing with the same threats over and over again: megalomaniacs (Governor), roaming predators (Joe's gang / Randall's gang), cannibal armies (Terminus) and random threats while looking for shelter (Tomas/Andrew and possibly Gabriel).

Then, there is the neverending walker problem.

All of the above was addressed (in a broad sense) by Abraham: they can stay put, and continue to deal with threats (with luck that has been running out since the prison), or give themselves a chance.

It comes down to what kind of life they want to live.

Here we have an episode where Rick, almost instinctually does nothing but call into question a would be clergyman about his history, because something doesn't feel right, and rightfully so, imo. It doesn't add up well.

Since season 2, Rick has been painted as having somewhat of an atheistic streak in him--even after establishing his relationship with Hershel. He seems to trust others more (like walking into an advertised sanctuary like Terminus--after experiencing Woodbury). That may have something to do with his immediate mistrust of Gabriel more than any obvious behavior not matching up in the man.

Perhaps, but getting to that will be the most daunting thing they've ever undertaken, and they should know that. It's a metropolis. Reaching a bunker in it will be like trying to grab a goldfish in a pool full of sharks, and there hasn't even been any discussion about how they plan to contact anybody holed up in these supposed secret bunkers, or if he actually already has, & how he did it & with whom.

Contact details are crucial, but I'm guessing that will take a back seat to following Eugene as the only option once the Terminus gang--and possibly Beth's kidanppers rain down on them.

I kind of wish Carol wasn't going through her social struggle right now. Getting her in there to shine a spotlight on this crap is sorely needed.

Agreed, but Carol not being there is necessary to keep the chaos going--including no extra hands in dealing with the fight coming in episode.

You know, it seems like I'm griping a lot. These episodes haven't been that bad. The cast has been exceptionally good. Chandler Rigg's performances have been very much better this season, & I hold out hope for the season getting interesting, but there are some big holes, namely inexplicable, out of character blind acceptance, and back peddling on the kind of fortitude that some of the characters should have regarding deadly force. After the stuff that Glenn has been through, I never expected him to be lobbying to leave well enough alone with people who tried to gut him like a steer, just so we can have a round two with these guys.

Glenn took lessons from Hershel about trust and faith to heart (again, I cite his reading a line from the Bible on the church wall), which ties into Hershel telling Carl he did not need to kill the forest walker outside of the prison.
In other words, being absolutely merciless robs you of humanity, but as noted yesterday, Glenn is right--but at the wrong time.

Hear Hear!

It's a hard lesson to learn if somebody has to get a leg eaten...

Not a bad episode, but it's fair to say like season 4, season 5 is gonna be heavily based on the comics. Which isn't a bad thing, just that for me it takes the drama out of watching it as I know way ahead what's gonna happen and why. Like basically everything in this episode.

For a bunch of cannibals that eat a lot of human meat all the time they sure are thin, and not fat.

I don't trust Gabriel either, he's hiding something for sure.

I hope Beth is ok.

Eugene – if it was helping someone he thought was good, sure, he;d take a detour. But straight up revenge? HE knows and WE know that would be a bad idea. He would most likely be killed or accidentally hurt HIS team in the process.
Abraham – Eugene’s his main priority, and unless the Termites were surrounding the camp…he’s not in.
Rosita – Rosita seems to dedicated to the Eugene mission as well.
Rick – He’s different than neglectful mom Lori…he’s gonna stay WITH his kids as much as possible
Carl – Judith needs to protect his sister. And Rick wants to protect Carl as long as he can
Glenn— He’s been a good guy (i.e. wanting to bury their friends as opposed to burning bodies
Maggie – she just found Glenn—she’s not about to lose him again
Tyrese – we know he is NOT a revenge seeker. He’ll kill if necessary, and really more for Walkers than real people.
Sasha – She COULD do it..but she just got her brother back. I don’t think she’d be too keen on going out – rather stick with him
Tara – doesn’t he foot/ankle/leg still hurt? Can’t imagine her being super effective at this point
Darryl –He just got back Carol, so he’s in no hurry to fight. He’d be capable – but
Carol – Well, she WOULD do it…but now that surprise is gone, it’d be hard to fight them off.
Michonne – Probably…but would you really risk one of your best by herself against a definite enemy? Is she that good with a gun? Her weapon of choice – very effective against walkers all this time, is not so much with humans with guns.

And when was the last time our heroes ate or slept? Hungry and tired do NOT make you an effective warrior. The Termites HAVE eaten well and slept, as well as lived in the surrounding area for many months,if not years. They’d have a HUGE advantage, and could easily ambush our guys.
Rick is suspicious of Gabriel because he is completely alone (that we see). And yet he’s trapped so easily by Walkers after TWO YEARS of the Zombie Apocalypse? Also, Gabriel said he hasn’t killed anyone (which is not true, indirectly speaking…and Gabriel knows it). Also,Tara hasn’t been with the group long enough to share her story that Gabriel’s scenario COULD be true. (Her family was holed up for several months as well, and very limited contact with walkers.
As for Eugene.. the apocalypse was brand new ,so there was a lot going on. And Jenner was mentally gone. Abraham & Rosita, at least seem rational. Eugene gave a technobabble explanation. But with access to Google, and other stuff to worry about…I doubt anyone can think through the science. Jenner at the CDC was nuts and hopeless…things moved way too fast to get a hold on things. But after a year, it’s reasonable some hope was found (scientifically).
Staying in one place hasn’t proven successful, so why NOT try? There’s definitey danger in traveling…but also danger in staying. Eugene might be questionable, but Abraham gave a pretty good argument…one I thought Rick was going to turn down.

And regarding Bob – who was left alive that was in the camp in season 1 when Amy (Andrea’s sister) complained about someone walking her to the bathroom? She went alone, and thought she was safe, and wound up bitten. Bob has been at the prison so long, he forgot about such needed paranoia. So that’s why he got captured – not for the “mercy” given to Termites.
And why was he crying – was he bit?
