The Walking Dead Season 5

‘The Walking Dead’ Season 5 Debut Shatters Records; 17.3M Watch

With a lot of red meat and explosions galore, the zombie apocalypse returned to AMC last night bigger than ever. The Season 5 debut of The Walking Dead pulled in 17.3 million total viewers on Sunday at 9 PM with 11.0 million among adults 18-49. With a rise of 7% and 6% respectively, that viewership and demo series record chews up the previous high of 16.1 million watching and 10.4 million among the 18-49s that the Season 4 premiere of the blockbuster series drew on October 13 last year.

Comparing season opener to season finale, the Season 5 start of The Walking Dead is up strong from the viewership from the 15.7 million who watched the Season 4 ender on March 30. That biting episode got 10.2 million viewers among the 18-49 demo and is the highest rated and most watched finale of the show so far.

Is there a new producer that hated last season?

All that effort yo get to Terminus, and woosh: Gone.

I thought the 2nd half of season 4 was filled with quite a bit of crap and almost made me tune off it was soooooooo boring

So very happy with the start to season 5 ;)

This goes back to the season 4 debut, where he told Karen that he does not like fence duty. Its only when pushed (ex. the car surrounded by walkers, attack by the Governor, etc.) that he uses lethal force. He likely has some sort of rage issue he's trying to suppress, for fear that it could get out of control.
He mentioned last night, when talking to the Termite in the cabin, that we don't know just how dark and bad he can be. So yeah, he may indeed have a very dark history.

As for Gareth and the other cannibals, yeah, Rick should have argued with Abraham a bit harder about going back and finishing them off. They're going to cause trouble in the future. If our gang can hop the fence and get out of Terminus, you can bet some of the cannibals did the same thing too.

And for that matter, do we even know for a fact that Tyrese killed the baby-choker in the cabin? He certainly beat him to a pulp, but since we didn't see a confirmed death, there's a chance that guy might still be alive. Gareth and other cannibal survivors may find him and get some intel on our group.

Or perhaps that guy is dead, and if Gareth finds him beaten to a pulp, that'll enrage him even more and give him the conviction he needs to hunt down Rick's group.

Also, with regards to the appearances last night of the hippie from last season and the tattooed rapist, yeah, I didn't pick up on either of those. Interesting to see the tattoo guy die before we actually "met" him in the flashback. X-Men DOFP had a similar character cameo this summer.

It's a good thing I watched Talking Dead, so they could tell me what I just saw.

...and another post-apocalyptic community is utterly wiped out after its encounter with the plague of locusts that is Rick's group. :guffaw:

You just know Tyreese not killing that guy is totally going to come back to bite him in the ass.

I literally clapped when I saw Morgan. BOOYAH!

I honestly thought it was going to be Chris Hardwick under that mask, and that they just had a little fun filming an on-set intro for the season premiere of Talking Dead.

I thought Tyrese DID kill the guy?

He said he did. And it sounded like he probably did. But we didn't see that he did.

On comic books shows, if you don't see the body, no one is dead. Now that guy is probably dead. It sounded like Tyrese really pounded him after destroying the walkers. But if he was still alive, it wouldn't be the biggest shock ever.

My guess is that he's dead, but my brain is telling me to be alert on the off chance that he's alive.

I too am generally of the opinion that they should have swept Terminus & finished the job. Survivors are going to take that shit personal, & you don't need to be running into that out in the wild
Think about it. Woodbury, the prison, & Terminus were 3 large sanctuaries in what was once a populated area, and all 3 are destroyed. I doubt there's anymore in Georgia like that

Anything would be more stable than a road trip to Washington. Morgan had a town block rigged to handle living and dead intruders. Rick would be wise to take the group there, where they have plenty of multi-story buildings (read: security) to monitor incoming threats. That, and there would be more than enough room for all, upgrade traps, etc.

There's a good chance that their unwillingness to do so may cost them dearly. The problem is, they had it cushy for a good deal of time, at that prison. It's near a couple years into the fall now, and most anybody out there is either living a nomadic "Take or be taken" lifestyle, like Joe's claimers, or they were holed up somewhere that's probably been Woodburied by now

I do think Gareth and any outside associates will spell doom for many in Rick's group. He will likely figure out it was Carol who launched the attack (as the others were in custody at the time), and might target her. How Beth and her police-like "keepers" play into this is unknown--unless they have some association with the Terminus group. Perhaps they were responsible for the long haired captive with the numbers tattooed on his forehead (as a marker for inmates).

This season seems like the "There's no coming back for humanity" season. Every day from here on in is pretty much a day you hope you don't run into any people, because the days of strangers helping strangers is coming to a close

Yeah--but it was bad enough already, and they should know better. From Tomas & Andrew (prison), Woodbury (and hostile joiners such as Allen), Joe's claimed gang, to Randall's thug group from season two's "Nebraska", Rick's group should be well schooled about the high level of living threats--before arriving at Terminus.

They were still able to hope before Terminus, but I don't think they will ever feel trusting about any outsiders again.

I'm sure Eugene is lying about having any information about a "Cure". This is just his way of staying alive -- make everyone put saving his life ahead of their own. Did anyone notice his reaction to a walker near him when they were escaping the train car? Almost an "eek!" and then someone took out the walker. He is totally helpless, not capable of fighting or wielding weapons, so he's found a way to survive.
I recognized Hippie Sam at the trough only because I was watching the reruns the last few days.

Yeah, now it's making me think they need to take a lesson from Breaking Bad and adopt a "no half-measures" mentality. At least Rick did.

It is kinda hard to imagine the Terminus people being able to catch up with them, but well, this show has people like Merle show up conveniently. And now I guess Morgan. And Joe and his gang had the wonderful TV skill of tracking, even magically on streets. So yeah, I guess they'll find them...

No, I could sort of see it was set up to be a turning point rather than a weigh station, even last season

But yeah.... Rick's group should have long ago known better than to wander into Terminus willy-nilly. I said that last season. It's been near two years of going head to head with every kind of dark ages scum imaginable. The word sanctuary should have no meaning to them by now. They should've read that sign last season, chuckled & said "Oh look, a rape den is coming up. How should we go about sidestepping that shithole?"

Well, they didn't just "wander into Terminus all willy nilly" they did enter through the back-entrance armed and prepared. (Though they probably should have monitored the place for the better part of a day to get a feel for it.) But it's not like they walked in through the proverbial front door like the Abraham/Glenn/Maggie group did.
