I think there's a difference between a one-time auto accident with an unfortunate outcome and someone who systematically takes advantage of children.

It appears the behavior in question is well in the past so I hope the victims have found some peace.

I hope so too, but unfortunately the statistics are pretty grim. Most child molesters don't just "stop". They continue to molest.

If these charges are true (and I listened to the tape--it sure sounds like him), I hope he's taken off the streets so that he can't continue to abuse children.

Very sad.

Being from the UK where almost every television personality before 1990 has recently been convicted of some kind of historical sexual/paedophilic offense, I can't say this revelation is particularly shocking. I guess I'm just desensitized to human beings being utter sacks of shit.

That being said, from the details I've read and listening to the tape, these offenses are much the same, that being these are historical offenses. Thats not to defend him. It's fucked up what he did. But he's not doing it now. The tape makes mention of some kind of report that has the entire details of this, so I would assume this is some kind of police report, they did their due diligence and came to the conclusion that he is not a threat to the public at large. If his ex-wife has held onto this tape for any length of time without contacting authorities, shes just as big a piece of shit.

Oh well. As far as the fucked up spectrum of "grope - Fritzl" goes, taking your dick out and waving it around is on the slightly less fucked up side of things, so we got that going for us, which is nice. :/

And for what its worth, I only ever liked the Launch sequence from TMP anyway!

Ditto. I've had the film bouncing around my subconscious for 35 years and this isn't going to ruin it. It might be worse for my sister, though, who used to have a crush on him back in the Gold Monkey days.

Wait a minute...

According to the CNN article I read, there is an investigation into this and nothing has been confirmed and the authenticity of the tape has not been verified.

Is there an updated article or news report that I missed? Some people here are saying pretty nasty things, and I'm not sure if it's something gleaned from a news source or people just talking smack.

This is extremely sad, if true.

However, as others have pointed out, we must remember that at this point, it's just an accusation, and it's one being made by the spouse in the midst of an extremely bitter divorce. Many people have their lives ruined by one accusation of sexual misconduct, even if false.

If these alleged crimes took place in New York -- which I'm only assuming from the fact that the NYPD is investigating -- then it would appear the statute of limitations has long since run out. For criminal prosecutions of sexual crimes against a child, the prosecution must begin no later than five years after the victim reaches their 18th birthday which, if these crimes occurred in the 70's, would have been decades ago. The same standard applies to bringing civil suits in such cases. So I'm not sure what the NYPD is hoping to accomplish with their investigation.

The same standard applies to bringing civil suits in such cases. So I'm not sure what the NYPD is hoping to accomplish with their investigation.

The NYPD may have started the investigation, but the LAPD announced that they're assisting the NYPD with it as well by reviewing the 2012 investigation in their neck of the woods to link it back to the original case. If one incident was decades ago, it could still perhaps provide clues to Collins' 2012 case.

I've never been guilty of holding TMZ too high with regard to journalistic integrity. I'm surprised that anyone else does? I'm amongst the disappointed that TMZ chose to make that public at all.

Stephen Collins acting career has come to an abrupt end. Even if he committed no crime. And that saddens me.

This is a developing story and we should take it slow. I'm reading that she turned over the tapes two years ago and that she is also wondering how these tapes got released. Everyone is innocent at this point.

What I have read indicates she did not withhold the tapes. The tapes have been with the police for a few years.
