evidence for:
-Admiral Marcus saying a war with the klingons is coming (a foreshadow if ever there was one)
-Praxis blown up/Qo'noS a contaminated wasteland (due to neros fastfowarding everything. klingons using neros tech to overmine so Praxis was destroyed 30 years early so klingons more desperate/war like possibly leading to a war far earlier. Notice some are saying it wasnt meant to be Praxis but you think they do stuff like that without good reason? esp with uber trek fan Orci writing)
-cameo in STID felt like just a taster. the prelude to something bigger..(and they were cut out of ST09 - its like they itching to use them as main villains but holding back)
-they havent been the main villains since VI in 1991. and although they featured in all the original cast films (ok II was just flight simulator) they were only the proper main villains in III and VI (in V they were playing second to Sybok), and with the TNG movies only featured in Generations as a secondary villain to Soran.
-theres yet to be a big Federation armada vs klingon armada battle scene in any movie
-along with Khan, they are the most well known of trek villains(actually even more than Khan) so we get romulans in 1, Khan in 2...that probably means klingons in 3
-next film is due 2016 - what better way to celebrate Treks 50th anniversary than an epic war film with the klingons (similar to VI on the 25th anniversary - plus it will be the 25th anniversary of VI in 2016!)
-a while back (last year maybe) i watched an interview with Nimoy where he said the last time he saw Roddenberry it was to discuss Trek VI and he said GR liked the script very much but said he would like to see one thing explored that no Trek had ever touched upon before - the origins of the klingons - why they were the way they were, why so angry, what caused them to go down that route and become a ferocious warrior race, what happened. Nimoy said he thought it was a great idea and he and Meyer went away and tried to interject some explanations in the movie but they couldn’t figure out how to in the context of the story that needed to be told so it didn’t happen. but for the next film maybe they'll do what GR wanted to see and what (to my knowledge) has yet to be explored (even in TNG) - the origins of the klingons (via flashback and explanation from various characters against the backdrop of a story of an epic klingon/federation conflict complete with some kind of mcguffin)
-Avatar delved deeply into an alien race and its culture - and the sequel will be out xmas 2016 same year as ST3, so its possible the ST3 might go that way with the klingons (home planet, their culture etc). after all when a film is as big as Avatar (or star wars or any genre defining blockbuster) theres usually similaly themed movies that follow and ride the wave (plus Uhura is Avatar woman)
then again a borg movie would be way cool
