1) Listen
2) Dalek
3) Time Heist (it's sooooooo close to be #2; close enough I'd say it was a tie)
4) Deep Breath
5) Robot Of Sherwood

Over all (take Missy and Paradise out) the season so far has been about the Doctor discovering himself and it's worked--mostly. This is and isn't the 1.0 Doctor (the first 12 lifes), he's gotta figure out if that means his still the same man of if he's "the broom"--to reference "Deep Breath".

~snip~

Nope. Remember the millennium long war on Trenzalore? All 11 had to do was say the word and Gallifrey would be back, no equation was required.
I was thinking that with the crack sealed, they had to do it the hard way.

A rather middle of the road episode, for mine. I don't know if watching part of it this morning and the rest this afternoon had anything to do with anything but it was just sort of there - not awful, but not stellar either. I did like the two "accomplices" (for lack of a better term) and there were one or two amusing lines of dialogue, but otherwise it was back to form after last week's well above average outing.

For some reason the Teller / almost extinct alien reminded me of something out of Farscape (but the dots won't quite join up as to why). Any reminder of the magnificence that is Farscape, however vague, is fine by me.

Yeah, FS was a great series for many reasons, but they sure knew how to do aliens better than any other TV show.

I really enjoyed this episode. I had figured out the Doctor was the Architect, but not the reveal of the real purpose of the heist or the bit with the Teller. The whole season has been pretty strong so far.

I'm pleasantly surprised how much I'm enjoying the small scale of the stories this season. I really think it's a welcome change of pace from the previous frantic paced episodes.

That's two episodes on the run I've liked !

In order from great to bloody awful :

1. Listen
2. Time Heist
3. Robot Of Sherwood
4. Into the Dalek
5. Deep Breath

Although I never watched it, I always liked the look of it. I think their aliens looked so good because they were real and substantial - not merely CGI or Westmore bumpy-forehead-of-the-week. The Henson creations were very convincing.

Good! Not quite the top grade but very good and entertaining! The supporting characters were fun as well. The time travel twist and the Doctor being the architect were nice. Although, it wasn't too hard to guess that it was the Doctor.

No real complaints, just wasn't wowed enough to knock it out the park but good solid entertainment.

Been noticing that as the episodes go by Capaldi's Doctor is becoming less distinct. Not really that grouchy or lacking in social manners. I love his portrayal though so no complaints. But, all the fuss over the new take before the season seems to have been for nothing!

Mr Awe

Just noticed that when the creatures walk away without the space suit, they look a lot like the body of the Morbius monster. Wonder if that was a deliberate reference, suggesting that Solon used one of that species in his hotchpotch?

D'oh! I knew it looked familiar but couldn't place where!! Thanks!

I'm guessing then that he gets co-writing credit for episodes with scenes connecting to the arc with Clara and her relationship with Danny, which this episode does have. Also, Moffat is co-writer of next week's which seems to be all about that.

Or, maybe, you know, he actually does co-write the stories? Just saying . . .

I could not get into this episode. Bottom of the list this season for me. Did not care about any of the characters and thought the editing was poor. Maybe on a second watch it will get better.

Even though I didn't understand fully who the architect was, I still felt the episode was a bit tighter than previous episodes.

He was the Doctor. He recorded a message for all of them and then wiped his memory.

I'd got the impression that he recorded the message later; he was as much a 'victim' of the pre-destination paradox his future self set up as the others were (and indeed, the future Doctor is too, he has to record the message to ensure things play out as they did; and I read it as being that if the heist hadn't happened at all he wouldn't have known of the cyborg, the shapeshifter and the creatures' existence and hence wouldn't have set out to arrange a happy ending for them).

So for the Doctor, it's phone call in Clara's flat/briefing/memory wipe/heist/set it all up (before or after taking everyone home is open to question). Otherwise he either set it all up in the middle of the briefing (no? It's only during the actual flares that the TARDIS can't get in, not a bit before, so possible, but I feel no), or he knows about it all in Clara's flat (maybe but don't like it), or he wipes his memories twice (again, maybe, but no)...

Its interesting to see how very differently everyone has ranked the episode. I guess Who has grown so large that its been adopted by people with very different taste in what they like to see.

I voted "amazing", although I think "Very Good" or "B+" would be more accurate. It was better than the last two weeks episodes, although not mind blowing or anything. It was an entertaining adventure from beginning to end, even if the very end (the reason for all of the events in the episode) wasn't super strong.

Better than last week. 4 out of 5.

Hating the present day Clara storylines. Halts the narrative something awful.

My rankings for the season thus far:

Listen
.
.
.
.

.
the rest.

Precisely. Farscape aliens were actually alien, rather than dolled up humans with one or two odd quirks. One of the greatest of the many great things about that series.

I voted amazing but frankly I nearly upped that to Scottish. I thought it was fun, exciting, and it kept me guessing. It took a while to get going, and there were a lot of jump cuts early on but on the whole really enjoyable. Plus, a clone army of Keely Hawes? Oh my…

I’m amused that people are saying this nothing arc related happened though, given front and centre and in plain sight they showed us people we thought died, only they didn’t, they were just teleported somewhere else ;)

Oh yeah, and my favourite line? "I wanted minimalist but I seem to have gone with magician!"
