And remember how every season of Sherlock has a really weak episode? He writes those, too. Gatiss and the Moff must be the most loyal friends of all time, since they keep sending work to this guy. At least they've got the sense to not let him do any more solo work.

And to top it all off the preview for Time Heist features the return of Murray Gold's inane Seven Notes of Obnoxiousness. Guess it's too much to hope that the streak would continue indefinitely. At least we've had such a good run so far, and the rest of the season might still be splendid.

Curse of the Black Spot was a forgettable episode, not gratingly bad episode that made you wish to remove your brain after watching. It was even somewhat fun at moments... Maybe... I don't remember. I think the new season is cool with Capaldi being a fresh Doctor and in general, so even a forgettable episode like this one might be a positive experience.

And Robot of Sherwood was already forgettable enough, particularly after they censored the main joke.

I always wanted a crossover between Doctor Who and Hustle, so don't you dare speak bad about it (before it proves itself so on its own merit)!

Well he definitely wrote the weakest episode of Sherlock series 1 (by a wide margin) and The Black Spot was pretty bad, whilst Journey to the Centre of the Tardis was just forgettable...

But I notice that Time Heist is co written with Moffat, which may mean properly co-written, or may just mean Moff did the Missy bits (if there is a Missy bit.)

I know people probably think me a 100% Moffat fanboy (which I'm not) but one of the things that does bug me about him is his jobs for the boys attitude sometimes, best exemplified by Thompson.

But, who knows, Time Heist might be a rolicking triumph, or it might be terrible, I reserve judgement till I see the episode.

Time Heist is much better than Listen.

I like 'The Krotons' (probably because Zoe looks pretty nice in that outfit) but I'm not a big fan of 'Power of Kroll.'

Yeah, I was surprised to hear I am the Doctor in the preview, since Murray Gold indicated he was going to retire that tune when Matt Smith left. Oh well, it is just the preview, and to be honest they still haven't come up with a theme for the Twelfth Doctor yet. And besides, I am the Doctor was used in two scenes featuring all the Doctors in Day of the Doctor, I'm okay if they decide to make that a "pan-Doctor" theme, which can apply to all the Doctors.

As for Stephen Thompson, his Who episodes do leave much to be desired, though his Sherlock episodes are noticeably better. Time Heist looks like it could go either way, it could be decent, but it wouldn't surprise me if it wasn't either.

Also, the episode is co-written by Moffat, though we'll see if my theory pans out and these co-written episodes are just Moffat inserting scenes with Missy into scripts which are otherwise written entirely by someone else.

Going by the audio the second half of the serial is actually very good. The Doctor and his companions don't really get involved in the 'story' as much as a normal adventure.

Yeah, that's the example that popped to mind for me. I watched the latter again on the weekend and it's stunning just how bad that episode is.

Yeah. I guess we do tend to jump on the writer when an episode is bad, but sometimes other factors feed into it. I mean Blink is fantastic, and much of that is down to Moffat's script, but its also down to the guest cast, the direction, he music, the realisation of the Angels...in other hands Blink might not have been nearly as good.
